Roll-In Overview for K-4th Grade iPads
The information below is to help guide you through the roll-in process. All iPads are getting collected
Current K-4th grade iPads will be collected and reset. You can choose not to reset, but it is preferred (5th grade reset is required)
When the last week of school arrives, in class the teacher can help make sure the iPads are fully charged and updated to the latest iPadOS
Verify students are signed in with their district Managed Apple ID for a backup
Either in class, or the library students can follow these steps to download JAMF Reset. (be sure the iPad is updated to the latest iPadOS (17.4.1 before resetting)
If there is a restrictions setup that will need to be removed before the iPad can be reset (your Tier 1 or Client Services tech can remove)
After JAMF Reset is complete and they are on the Hello Screen, or if not reset have it powered down and the iPad can be checked into Destiny. Make sure to get the brick/cord for the iPads
You can have an iPad cleaning station where the students can clean the screen with iKlear and a microfiber towel
Keep a count of bricks/cords. If short the office manager can make an order (hopefully since the iPads have stayed in school the bricks/cords will match the iPads turned in)
iPads can be checked into Destiny and stored by the current teachers name, next year's teacher, students last name, etc in a box, shelf, book cart, etc. (each iPad can be labeled with painters tape, or iPad inspection Form for ease of finding them by students name)
Have your Office Manager order replacement bricks & cords via a Help Desk ticket. This order must be placed before you leave for break
Keep a count of cases that may need replaced, send roy.fuller@bend.k12.or.us that count. Please make sure to refer if a 6th gen case is needed vs. 7th ,8th, 9th gen cases since there is a size difference
Roll-In Overview for 5th Grade iPads
The information below is to help guide you through the roll-in process. All iPads are staying at school
For 5th graders they will be leaving their iPads at the end of the school year. The 5th grade iPads will be used for incoming KG students for Fall of 2024. Those will need to be updated, charged and JAMF Reset so they can be checked out to the incoming KG students. Below are the steps to take for the 5th grade iPads only:
When the last week of school arrives, in class the teacher can make sure the iPads are fully charged and updated to the latest iPadOS
If the student wants to have files carry over with them to middle school, they'll need to be signed in with their district Managed Apple ID for a backup. Using the slideshow provided will walk the students through this process
After JAMF Reset is complete and they are on the Hello Screen, the iPad can be checked into Destiny. Make sure you also get the brick/cord for the iPads
Keep a count of bricks/cords. If short the office manager can make an order (hopefully since the iPads have stayed in school the bricks/cords will match the iPads turned in)
If the case on the iPad is in good shape, keep it on the iPad. If a case needs replaced go ahead and toss it. Keep a count of how many cases you'll need
Have your Office Manager order replacement bricks & cords via a Help Desk ticket. This order must be placed before you leave for break
Send roy.fuller@bend.k12.or.us a total of cases needing replaced for 5th grade going to KG. Please make sure to refer to 6th gen cases vs. 7th, 8th or 9th since they are a different size

Looking Ahead : Roll-Out Next September
Order replacement cords& bricks BEFORE you leave for the summer!
Roll-outs done one class (starting with 5th, working down) or grade level/department (secondary) at a time during the first week of school makes things run smoother
Your Fellow Tier 1s say you should expect Roll-Out Preparation to take 2-4 days with help. Let your Administrator know this and find out if you're expected to come in early to do this, or if they'll be making sure to provide help upon your return
If you are diligent updating to the latest iPadOS version during roll-in done. Your roll-out will be much smoother. Also making sure the iPads come in at least 70% charged will help speed up roll-out as well
Library carts are a great way to store iPads over the summer by grade, class, name, etc. if available at school
Advice from the trenches!
Our best advice for smooth roll-in:
Don't do it on a Monday (you'll enter tons of fines for bricks and cords and then delete them the very next day when student's remember to bring them in)
Make sure office staff have the appropriate instructions for collecting iPads that are early or late from students (passcodes disabled, signed out of iCloud, JAMF Reset, etc.)
