Do these steps while the iPad still has power. Teach students not to wait until it's too late
BUT...
make sure the student has actually searched for the iPad FIRST, because if you put it in Lost Mode and then find it disconnected from wifi you may have problems disabling Lost Mode and require a full reset.
1. Send the Clear Passcode command FIRST (See the Jamf Quick Guide. Refresh the page in Jamf until you see that the command no longer shows "pending").
2. Enable Lost Mode (see the Jamf Quick Guide).
3. If connected to wi-fi , the iPad will start beeping and someone will likely bring it to you (stop the noise by disabling Lost Mode).
4. Identify where in the world the iPad last checked in! (Here's how)
5. Send the student on a mission to find it!
6. If the iPad is found, go back into Jamf and Disable Lost Mode.
If the iPad is no longer on wi-fi because it was rebooted or lost power use the Lightning to Ethernet adapter that was provided to your site to send the command via ethernet connection. If that still doesn't remove Lost Mode the iPad will need to be restored.
Use your best judgement about when to assess a fine for the Lost iPad in Destiny. Fines MUST be assessed before issuing a new iPad but you can do it sooner if you prefer. Fines can be reversed if the lost iPad reappears.
1. Mark as Lost or Stolen (lost is automatically fined).
2. Check out a replacement iPad to the student.
If the student reports the iPad stolen, they must file a police report:
1. Do all of the steps above.
2. Create a Help Desk ticket and choose categories: iPad > iPad Lost or Stolen > Stolen.
3. Attach the police report under the Notes area.
