Middle schools now have iPad charging carts where the iPads will charge overnight. These carts will stay in advisory classrooms and each school is working out how this will play out. Students will need to make sure that they walk away with their iPad. Blue tape with their name on the cover could work to accomplish this. More middle school specific information and guidance can be found here:
Roy Fuller, our IT Client Services Project Manager is on leave. If you need additional cases, iPads, etc. please place a Help Desk ticket requesting those items under the iPad category.
If you have questions or need assistance please reach out to your site's Client Services Tech.
iPad setup will likely take longer. Certain required apps and settings must now install before students can complete setup. The iPad may remain on the “Configuring iPad” screen for 10–15 minutes and must stay connected to Wi-Fi during this time. This helps ensure the iPad is fully configured and ready to use when students reach the Home Screen.
Students are now restricted from clearing their Safari web browsing history or using private browsing mode.
Google and Bing search engines for K-5 students are blocked.
YouTube is blocked for all students and only pre-approved YouTube videos can be accessed by students.
Fees for iPad replacement and repairs have increased to better reflect the actual cost of devices and repairs. See the iPad Insurance section below for more information. Specific repair costs are not listed because they may change as costs increase.
StudentVUE and Canvas now support Single Sign On (SSO) on iPads. Students should no longer struggle to log in to these apps. As part of this change we have removed Canvas Web (the web clip that links to Canvas on Safari). If a student needs to use the browser version of Canvas, they can still go to bls.fyi/canvas in Safari.
This change means that students who could previously log in to StudentVUE at home will no longer be able to until they have set up MFA.
StudentVUE is now installed automatically on all middle and high school iPads.

Logitech keyboard cases are $109 and regular cases are $18. If a student damages a case, assess a fine and issue a replacement.
During the 3 year (since new) warranty period, keyboard cases with manufacturer defects will be replaced through the warranty process - facilitated by IT. Keyboards showing visible damage at check-in will incur the full $109 replacement charge or $59 with insurance.
iPads stay at school and in a single classroom. No insurance is offered or necessary. Accidental damage is covered at no cost to families, but may come with a cost to the school.
Verify with your school that insurance is being promoted in communications to parents using ParentSquare and to students in Canvas
After September 30th iPads must be inspected by you, the Tier 1, prior to insuring. This will ensure there is no preexisting damage to the iPad or case.
The deductible for an iPad damage claim beyond the first one has increased to $100.
An iPad requiring replacement is now $429. This price change reflects increases in device costs and represents what we pay for an iPad.
iPad repair costs have also changed to reflect what we pay. As these prices can change, we are not posting them on our public documentation. As of August 2026, a 9th gen iPad repair costs $243.50 and an A16 iPad repair costs $291.
High School Logitech keyboard case fines are unchanged: $59 for first replacement with insurance. $109 for subsequent replacements or without insurance.
Families will now be automatically notified by the Business Office (using InTouch) if a student has an iPad related fine.
Initial student passwords can be found in Synergy. The initial student password is a randomly generated 6 character string. We recommend students grade K-5 leave this password as-is. We recommend students grade 6+ change this password to something only they know. Students in grades 6 and higher can change their password by using the "Password" web clip on their student iPad. Passwords can be reset by staff using the BLS Staff Tools. This will generate a random 6 character password and that password will be synced back to Synergy so other staff can look it up.
Passwords should be handled responsibly by staff. Passwords should be NOT be written down or put on a label.
Bend-La Pine Schools requires students to use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) when accessing district-provided services from a personal device (anything other than a district-issued iPad or computer). This requirement helps protect students and their data.
Important information:
MFA is not required when students use a district-issued iPad or computer.
MFA must be set up before accessing district resources from a personal device. Unless a student has their iPad at home, families will need to complete MFA setup while connected to the district network.
A phone number is required for setup. Students can use a personal cell phone number, a parent/guardian’s number, or a home landline to receive a call or text message for verification.
If a student’s MFA needs to be reset, the Tier 1 must submit a Help Desk ticket on the student’s behalf.
Setup instructions are available on the Student FAQ site.
