What is “design thinking”? Design thinking is “thinking like a designer to solve ill-defined problems “. Design thinking can be used in our education.
Teachers with design thinking skills will encourage students to find problems on their own and express their thoughts and ideas, in order to cultivate their problem solving skills.
The process of learning by collaborative thinking goes like this: first, students should observe and empathize the needs and demands of users, then define the problem that is needed to be solved. Second, students are encouraged to offer their thoughts and come up with ideas to meet the needs of users. Third, students are expected to design a model to put their ideas into practical use, and test this model. Lastly, students revise their model while rethinking their original ideas.
Design thinking can stimulate innovation in education because of the following points: we can confirm demands and problems, and the ideas and plans on solving these problems can be improved. We can also evaluate the promisingness of the ideas, and exchange possible concepts and models during the process of design thinking.
When design thinking collaborates with our lives, the “users” in design thinking becomes ourselves. Thus, we should empathize our own needs and become aware of ourselves. We need to find out and define what we truly love and have passion for. Then we should make short term and long term goals, and think of different kinds of possibilities. Lastly, we should take action and carry out our plans, and continue revising them on the way.
To conclude, design thinking is a creative and innovative approach to problem-solving and making plans. From my perspective, the ability to empathize the needs of others and ourselves is an essential skill that we would need in our daily lives. Moreover, the ability to carry out plans and revise them is also very important. Creativity shouldn’t be used only in drawing, painting and the likes, but also be used in our everyday lives.

A few days ago , I watched a movie called “ 無問西東” in class. The movie showed the meaning of what life is for . The answer was to “ Follow your heart and do what you literally want to do.” However , no one asked me how to proceed until today’ class.
The way of achieving our goals is design thinking . The teacher described the process of it . First of all , we have to observe the things all around us and find out where differences and questions are . Secondly , we should define the questions . For example , what is the definition of bad shopping carts ? Not easy to be turned around or no hooks ? After the second stage , the thoughts on the project are extremely important . The blueprint should be planned in a thoughtful and creative way so that the next step will be easier and smoother . The last thing is that the plan we propose will go through the trial and error for a long time until it works .
The teacher demonstrated IDEO company using a kind of technique . This group found out that the shopping carts in all markets had some problems , including the unsafe seat in the cart for babies or something put out of the shopping cart. Then , all the members in this group worked in high attention together to collect wild ideas DEFER judgment build on the ideas of others . Next , some of prototypes were combined into one featuring great points of those . In the end , they successfully devised the true one they liked.
Design thinking also can be utilized in education , like STEM . The teacher continued to tell us that design thinking also could bring some advantages to us . We can know the thoughts which can be improved and what’s our demand . In addition , conceptual change can be taken advantage of through design thinking . Lastly , the teacher described Odyssey plan divided into three parts like as usual , breakthrough , carefree. These three parts mean you should organize a plan about what you want to do in life. If it doesn’t work, you should replace a plan with as usual stage. And carefree stage means you can organize a plan whether it is unpractical.
My dream is to become a boss full of abilities in the future, and to ultimately create a kind of car which can keep passengers from dying . Although I did not have too much expertise in this area , I tried to devise a plan through design thinking . First of all , I found that the even though the seat belt and the hard body of the car can give us protection , the fast speeding is the main factor causing the death . Based on the costs of the cars , we hardly can look for something to strengthen the bodies of the cars because sturdy materials are especially rare . Therefore , the plan I came up with was devise the doors which are more protrude in the middle of it so that the four sides of the doors can support the middle of it more efficiently . Except for that , we can establish a steering wheel telling you please grasp the steering wheel with two hands if you don’t . Although I cannot go into the stage of trial due to less experience and money , I had implicit confidence in accomplishing it by virtue of mingling with advantages and throwing out disadvantages . For example , what kinds of materials can be bent at a proper angle ? Do the voices between men or women make a difference ? Does it stand a chance of using more comfortable texture to let drivers have no will to let go of their hands ?
To sum up , I was very appreciative of what this class was telling about . I had a little chance to learn how to accomplish the plan systematically until today’ class. Eventually, I consider the class imperative for me to realize not only the way the plan is but also everything you confronte in life !
