Moving into 2018 - 2019

Our work with the Thinking Consortium last year, allowed us to dig deeper into our RMS goal of 'fostering effective communication' and has provided us with a framework to think deeper about our work.

Using the framework of the thinking consortium and the 5 intellectual tools, we continue to ground our work from 'doing' to 'thinking' and how, through creating thinking classrooms, we will be fostering reasoning and proving and having an effect on fostering effective communication with our students.

Questions to consider:

The tool/framework supports us in fostering reasoning and proving through making thinking visible with our students as we foster effective communication in our classsrooms.

The TC2 framework suggests that educators help students improve as critical thinkers by:

  • nurturing communities of thinkers
  • framing critical challenges that invite students to think critically
  • teaching the intellectual tools that enable students to address critical challenges
  • assessing thinking and performance to support students’ use of the intellectual tools

As we move forward with our work...

We are so grateful for the work we have engaged in over the last few years, and look forward to our continued work. Under the new government, the name of the initiative - Renewed Math Strategy - will be changing to be that of - Focusing on Fundamental Mathematics.

Fortunately for us, our work has been all about balance. What is 'Fundamental in Mathematics' is a balanced approach - our work continues to fit within our goals that have been established over the last years.

With our team this year, we will be working through a job-embedded approach continuing to support the work within the schools. This website is a great place to look at for a wealth of resources and work that we have engaged in over the last few years. Please do use the site feedback tab to provide us with further insight as to ways we can continue to enhance this site.

Looking forward to our continued work!!
