Math Matters @ SGDSB is Currently Under Construction to be updated yet still has many valuable resources to check out!
Our work this year will be more focused on supporting a job-embeded approach. Working closely with schools supporting the work of the School Learning Plans as well as helping to connect educators across our district and support their learning intentions.
If you are an educator interested in connecting with another grade-like individual to work together support student learning, we would love to hear from you - speak with your admin and fill out the form below, with some ideas of what you would like to do, and we will work at putting connections together. Think about how this might help to support the work of your Annual Learning Plan, or the connected work of your School Learning Plan.
We will also have the following Capacity Building sessions, to support our overall goal of making thinking visible through reasoning and proving with the use of models, tools and high-yield strategies. It is through the work of these sessions that we will work to support the mathematical relationships so that our students develop a sense of number and are confident mathematicians.
In continuing to help 'stage learning centres' so that we are both playing with math, and engaging in math through play, we will explore a variety of interactive learning activities that can be done with the learning carpet.
As a request from grade 1/2 teachers last year, we will work together to share games that will help to stage the learning around number sense throughout the year.
Opportunities to connect math within coding/ connect to transformational geometry by integrating computational thinking in math instruction to facilitate conceptual development through dynamic modeling and active learning
Through the use of Fosnot’s book and #notabookstudy we will work together to further our understadning of the landscape for multiplication and division.
Content building sessions @ fractions, decimals, percents and their connections to measurement and working with unknowns in equations
Continuing to work together supporting each other through the lens of Assessment for Learning
Continuation of work with PRIME and supporting each other with planning responsively
And don't forget about the great virtual PD sessions offered through the RMS website!
If you haven’t yet seen the videos posted here - take a few minutes and check them it - they serve as good examples of why we are doing the work that we are - We don’t want our students to be anxious about math, or to not have the needed number sense for them to be successful in the world.
