2021 - 2022 Learning

Resources

As we begin our journey for 2021-2022, we wanted to provide you with a list of the resources that we continue to have available to support your programming. Many of these resources are digital, and require a username and password to access, so there are links to forms within this page for you to fill in so that we can get you set up and ready to go. These forms will stay live until the end of day Friday, September 3rd, and then after that, if you would like access to any of the resources mentioned, please email kschram@sgdsb.on.ca directly.

Zorbits Math Adventure (K-3)

Zorbit's Math Adventure in 60 Seconds provides an overview of how the game is designed with math at the core rather than a math overlay. Zorbit's Math is a blended learning platform for K-3 math that empowers teachers to elevate lesson plans in class, at home, and anywhere in between. There was positive feedback received from the 7 educators who piloted the program last year, and this platform of learning is much more conducive in supporting an inquiry based approach to student learning.

Zorbit’s Math Impact: Pedagogy provides some further insights into why Zorbits is supported by many math education experts from across the country - discussing what makes them fans of Zorbit’s Math unique blend of research-based pedagogy and playfulness.

The foundation of the platform is the Zorbit’s Math Adventure game where curriculum standards are integrated into engaging gameplay and fun narratives with a cast of charming space aliens. As learners play the game, they are actively engaged in rich math tasks designed to provide students agency over their problem-solving strategies.

To get connected in accessing Zorbits, please fill in the required information in the following sheet.

IXL (3-8)

IXL is a math & language arts practice website for K-12 (subscription based). It has unlimited questions on thousands of math topics and a comprehensive reporting system. Although housing resources for K-12, it's approach to support student learning is really through that of skill development, and for that reason best supports students in grade 3 and up. This is not to say, that it cannot be used to support students below grade 3, however preference would be to support K-3 learners with engaging in Zorbits.

In using the Real-Time Diagnostic, IXL creates a personalized action plan for each student. With these recommended skills, you have a simple way to differentiate instruction, fill individual knowledge gaps and facilitate meaningful progress.
In order to have your class set up to use IXL,
please provide the information through the following sheet. I will retrieve the student names through PowerSchool. IXL check-ins will occur regularly to ensure that student licenses are being utilized, otherwise they will be de-activated to be reassigned. Please indicate if you had an IXL teacher account last year, that can then be re-used this year.

Reflex Math (2+)

To set up your teacher account, access the link to your corresponding school in the following slides.

Reflex is an effective system for supporting mastering of basic facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It is only recommended for grades 2 and up, or when students have a clear understanding of the meaning of the operations and are working to gain fluency.

Please Note: if the password is not working for your school, please contact me and I will work with your administrator to reset it.
