If you thought it was difficult to stay on top of work during a normal school year, this year must be incredulously straining and stressful! Not only are you forced to be at home 3 days a week, but now you’re just coming off of Christmas break. Distractions and procrastination can tempt you, but it’s important not to give in.
Here are some of the best ways to stay focused and productive while working at home.
1. Establish a Routine.
It’s important to get your body in the habit of doing work at home. Set a specific time to wake up every morning, eat, and get ready for the day. From there, try to get yourself on a schedule allotting time to each class with quick breaks in between.
2. Treat Your Body Right.
Getting a sufficient amount of sleep is essential to being productive. If you are well-rested, you are more likely to accomplish that to-do list! Not only is sleep important, but your eating habits are too. Eating unhealthy, sugary foods at home will only make you more drowsy and eventually you will crash. Eat good fruit and sources of protein help to get you going in the morning!
3. Find a Good Study Space.
Zooming into class from your bed does sound nice… but it’s not going to help you get your work done! Try to find a desk or even a kitchen table where you can do your work. This will create a school-like environment and keep you focused.
4. Take a Break.
It’s okay to take a break every once in a while and it’s good to squeeze in some socialization during your day. Take a small break every so often to check in with friends and family or to take a quick peek at your social media. To keep those breaks small, set a certain time, no longer than 15 minutes, for this social time. Make sure not to let these breaks linger on!
5. Stay Active.
Sitting at home and staring at a screen all day can get boring. When you feel your attention span slipping, find something active to release some of that energy. Consider working out, yoga, painting or drawing, baking or cooking.
