If you are having difficulty finding enough interpreting opportunities, you are not alone. Many students have successfully met their hours by getting creative and using the resources available to them.
Here are some strategies that have worked for past students:
If your mentor is working a remote assignment and gives permission:
Join the session with your camera and microphone off
Interpret along on your own device
Record your work (if appropriate)
Review and debrief with your mentor during supervision
Schedule time with a tutor
Invite a friend or family member to join a conversation
Interpret the interaction in real time
Get feedback from the tutor
👉 You can also:
Work with another student
Take turns speaking and interpreting
Ask your classmates and mentor about additional opportunities
Use cancellations as time to pivot to interpret pre-recorded videos
