Jason Schayot is Fine Arts Coordinator and Director of Bands at L.V. Berkner High School in the Richardson ISD where his responsibilities include serving as the conductor of Symphonic Band I, coordinating the marching band, conducting the pit orchestra, and co-conducting the Berkner Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Schayot is currently in his 26th year of public music education. Under his baton, the Berkner Symphonic Band I has been invited to perform in Chicago on December 18, 2019 at The Midwest Clinic. Previously, the Berkner Mighty Ram Band performed at the 2016 UIL State Marching Band Championship and the Symphony Orchestra performed at the 2016 Midwest Clinic in Chicago.

Most recently in October 2021, Mr. Schayot was recognized by the Grammy Foundation as a semifinalist for the 2022 Music Educator Award, which recognizes current educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the music education field and demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools. The Grammy semifinalists comprise a total of 25 music teachers from 24 cities across 16 states; the semifinalists were selected from more than 1,135 initial nominations submissions from 49 states.

Mr. Schayot was honored as a Richardson ISD STARS Teacher of the Year for the entire school district in 2016. This distinction is extended to only ten teachers from all 2,500 teachers representing 55 schools in the Richardson ISD. During the difficult 2020-2021 school year, Mr. Schayot presented a clinic session to fellow music educators entitled “Simple Solutions for Virtual Performances” at the 2020 Midwest Clinic, the 2020 Texas Bandmasters Association Convention and the 2021 Texas Music Educators Association Convention.

Before coming to Richardson in 2011, he served as Director of Bands at Georgetown High School in Georgetown, Texas. Under Mr. Schayot’s leadership, Georgetown consistently received UIL Sweepstakes awards and advanced to the Area level in TMEA Honor Band competition.

In addition to his work at the high school, Mr. Schayot also worked at the middle school level in Georgetown as Head Band Director at Forbes Middle School and Associate Band Director at Benold Middle School. Before coming to Georgetown he was the Band Director at Giddings Middle School in Giddings, Texas, for three years.

Mr. Schayot holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas where he was recently named the 2021 Distinguished Alumni Professional. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, Texas Music Adjudicators Association and Phi Beta Mu - Alpha Chapter.
