Monday evening rehearsals:

Monday evening 8/20 Rehearsal is 5pm to 8pm for Varsity Marching Band – rain or shine.

Mondays will almost never have an early morning practice… instead we rehearse after school weekly on Mondays from 5pm to 8pm.

Please send your student on Monday mornings with a duffel with marching clothes, a snack dinner and their green water jug completly filled with ice only.

Students are not permitted to rehearse without their green water jug.

Monday evening parent pick-up should be around 8:10pm to allow for safe exit for students from the marching field.

Varsity Marching Band rehearses every Monday through October except when a HOLIDAY falls on a Monday. In that event, the Varsity Marching Band rehearses on Tuesday!

Early drop-off:

Some parents may wish to drop their students off early each morning on their way to work.

The band hall is typically open by 6:00 AM daily for early drop-off (Monday through Friday :)

Payments to Band Safe

Post-dated checks are not accepted.

All payments must be in an envelope with student's name, what section of the band they are in, and what payment is for. Pre-printed envelopes are above the safe in the band hall.

School-issued “Green Lockers”

All Berkner Band students are issued Green Lockers in the Fine Arts Hallway (C Hall).

Do not leave duffels/water jugs in band hall. Your green locker is located in C Hall and is for marching clothes/snacks/duffels/water jugs. Your band locker is in the instrument room and is for your instrument, music and tuner.

Concert Horns:

Thursdays in classes are “Concert Horn Thursdays”.

Have TMEA All-State etude cuts prepared each week and bring your concert horn! Double reed players ALWAYS bring their concert instruments to ALL rehearsals during classes, before school and after school.

This week is 9th grade cut of Etude 1. We will get this distributed on Monday 8/20.

Grading:

Student grades in band are earned through ATTENDANCE, TIMELINESS & EFFORT in Monday evening rehearsals and all rehearsals outside of the school day.

Additionally, the students will be given “Objective Cards” the first week of school. These are signed by directors that show student progress on the various playing objectives for each nine weeks. Students should be practicing each day for 25-45 minutes in order to adequately memorize their marching music and learn their TMEA All-State etudes which were handed out the first week of August. Each student will be given a white Berkner Band binder which should accompany them to every rehearsal, performance (in concert season) and when they go home to practice. Objective Cards are GRADED based on student progress for each playing objective… students can re-play an objective as many times as they wish in order to receive full credit. Students’ performance grades will be earned by attendance and timely participation at all games, concerts and contests.

More on this at open house!
