Summer Band
Begins Monday, July 22
Daily Mon-Sat July 22 through August 12
7:00 AM to 11:00 AM & 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM
Required of all students enrolled in Berkner Band 2024-2025
Students bring their instrument, pencil, band binder, filled Berkner Band waterjug (all new students will receive theirs on July 22 at 6:45am), sunglasses, hat and sunscreen. Long hair should be "up", or in a ponytail so that your hair doesn’t get in your face as we workout!
Since we are moving around outdoors, students will wear tennis shoes, shorts, and an athletic shirt
Students may bring their lunch each day to eat in C-hall. Students may also walk across the street to Canes, Chick-Fil-A, Panda etc. Parents, this option can start to add up $$, so bringing a lunch is encouraged. If you are walking, be sure to hydrate and follow all crossing walks. Leave enough time to return to rehearsal by 12:25 pm to get warmed up and ready to play. Parents, it is permissible for you to pick up your student for lunch each day if this fits into your work schedule, just be sure to return them no later than 12:25pm.
All students must email their completed doctor-signed physical form to jason.schayot@risd.org by July 22nd. Save it as a .pdf if possible and name it Lastname, Firstname 2024 physical. Pics of both pages .jpg or .png are also accepted, but .pdf if certainly preferred.
PHYSICALS:
UIL regulations require that each band student submit a doctor-signed physical form before July 22, 2024 Summer Band Day One. You can walk into NextCare on Plano Road for a $20 physical.... that's a great price, and they are open 7 days a week until 8pm (Sat & Sun they close at 5pm). HERE is the physical form. Physicals must be completed each year after May 1. Email your completed student physicals to Mr. Schayot at jason.schayot@risd.org
getting ready:
Walk/jog outdoors for 20 minutes each day before 11:00 AM to acclimate your body to the outdoor heat. Summer Band is outdoors each day from 7am to 11am.
Begin drinking more water than you are used to. Try drinking a full glass of water when you wake up, and another full glass before you go to sleep. Consider minimizing carbonated soft drinks, and drinking water at as many meals as possible.
Practice your Part One, Part Two & Part Three of the 2024 Berkner marching production (distributed at May Camp). Email Mr. Schayot if you would like a specific part emailed to you jason.schayot@risd.org
