Our students are our best advert - if you've been to our open evenings you may have met some of them. Below are some of the responses from our students when asked the question "What do you think about studying physics at QE?":
A class of former students, because we don't have a photograph of a current class!
David, Y12: "Studying physics helps you understand how the world works, and the teachers are there to guide you through the content. We regularly do practicals to help consolidate the theory we have previously learnt and gain a deeper understanding of the topics we cover."
Rosie, Y12: "Taking A level physics has been quite a journey for me, but the teachers have always been there to help throughout the year. Seeing how much I have improved since I first started has really motivated me to continue my studies with it as I was at one point thinking of dropping it. My confidence has grown each day, making me actually enjoy revising the topics we do in class. Physics also complements the mechanics side of maths which is definitely a bonus!"
Harry, Y12: "Choosing QE has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. From the Library and private study areas, to the use of free classrooms, finding somewhere to catch up on college work isn’t an issue. Being able to Email and visit teachers about work as well has really helped me get a grasp on my a-levels and helps to maintain a clear mindset. Alongside this, the broad variety of extra curricular activists at QE means that there is literally something for everyone to get involved with. Though I will be honest in saying that the on-site Costa is probably one of my favourite parts."
Ben, Y12: "physics is probably my favourite lesson, the teachers are great and activities are always engaging"
Anish, Y12: "Really inspired to read more beyond the subject course"
Leon, Y12: "It’s borderline impossible but the teachers make it bearable"
Jasmine, Y12: "The teachers are very supportive and are good at giving meaningful guidance when it is needed. I feel like I am always getting a lot out of my lessons (when they aren't put on hold due to world-wide pandemics) because of the interesting ways difficult topics are tackled through the use of practicals, demonstrations and well thought-out and unique descriptions of the topic. Physics is difficult so it also requires dedication on your part but at a certain point I think you grow to love the feeling of giving it your all and seeing that pay off. Also physics and maths are like a couple with a shared bank account (mechanics) so if you take one, you might as well just take the other."
Tom, Y12: "I’ve really enjoyed the physics course so far and Mike and Brian have helped me with any work that I have struggled with."
Joe, Y13: "If you’re considering a STEM degree in the future Physics is undeniably one of the best A-Levels for your application, not only that but the course is great and the teachers are even greater- probably some of the best teachers I’ll ever have so if you’re even remotely considering Physics PLEASE take it, you won’t regret it."
Ollie, Y12: "1st Year classroom is very cold, bring a jacket."
Josh, Y12: "You are encouraged to think freely and independently rather than rely on the teacher to solve problems for you. What you learn here pushes your understanding of the Universe to new heights and applies them to new areas you didn't think of before. It really opens up another world of physics that is much more interesting than what GCSE delivers."
Jak, Y12: "Every lesson is as enjoyable as the last with new information and detailed explanations from a great set of teachers. One of the best experiences in education I’ve had so far :)"
Dan, Y12: "The course is well structured and Mike and Brian make all the lessons fun and informative with plenty of demonstrations."
Jack, Y12: "very interesting subject, may seem a lot when you first start but if you keep at it, there shouldn't be much to worry about."
Liam, Y12: "If you're interested in figuring out the in-depth mechanics of how real-life processes work, and enjoy being pushed to solve the problems posed to you by application of your base knowledge, then Physics is for you. It focuses far more on using the very basic components of what you'll read in a textbook to produce a far larger investigation and outcome on various problems and questions."
Ethan, Y12: "Physics is definitely the best science to take, especially if you also want to study maths as they go well together. Don't let GCSE Physics put you off! A-Level Physics is so much more interesting and you look at each topic in a lot more depth."
Matthew, Y12: "Although work can be often be hard the teachers are very good at explaining and helping with the work through practicals and examples"
Dylan, Y12: "I really enjoy studying physics at QE. The lessons are always interesting and the teachers are dedicated and encourage you to think. I have found that the subject has challenged me in a good way and has introduced me to many interesting topics."
Oscar, Y13: "I have really enjoyed studying Physics at QE. I like the mix between learning new content, practical work and maths. I will be studying Mechanical engineering at University and physics has helped me to prepare for that."
Edward, Y12: "Within the time of less than a year I’ve already learnt so much"
Jamie, Y12: "Good teaching and interesting topics."
Ryan, Y12: "From the start of the year Physics at QE has interested me, each lesson we end up cover something new. You’re not just taught something and that’s it the teachers explain how it works and why it works and then you’re shown how everything links together and if there’s something you don’t quite get the teachers will water it down and explain the topic more until it makes more sense for you. Overall physics is a great subject if your wanting to go and do physics or engineering at university and will give you the key knowledge that you’ll need."
Peter, Y13: "Physics is the perfect subject if you are mathematically minded because you learn a lot of interesting but complex theories, the majority of which are based upon calculations and equations, which you don't have to memorise unlike at GCSE."
