Graphics, Mathematics, Extended Project
What did you do immediately after leaving QE?
I went to continue my study to do Physics as a degree at the University of Edinburgh.
And what are you doing now?
Having completed my first year of doing a physics degree, I’m now progressing to the second year where we will be looking at ‘modern physics’ (special relativity + quantum), dynamics, waves, matter physics, and fields.
Are the skills you developed while studying A-level physics helpful in what you're doing now?
I should hope so, otherwise, I'm doing the wrong course!
Even if I wasn’t doing a physics degree, the problem-solving skills you develop is immense. You learn to constantly question why something happens and to be more articulate with your thinking by using fundamental physics principles.
Favourite memory of QE physics?
I honestly couldn't give you just one. I loved every memory, big or small.
Anything else that you think a 16-year-old thinking of studying physics at QE might want to know?
In GCSE you may get away with regurgitating facts and context, but in Physics for A-Level, there is a larger emphasis on problem solving (and this gets even more emphasised if you wish to pursue physics beyond A-level). It’s all about applying your knowledge, so doing practice questions will be more useful than cue cards and memorising.
