Luther prayed to St Anne during a violent storm, promising that if he lived, he would abandon his training to be a lawyer, and join a monastic order. For the Roman Catholic Church of Medieval Europe, it would have been better if he died. By 1517 he challenged the authority of the Church, by the 1530s had split the Church in half and by 1546, as Luther died, the Holy Roman Empire was at war with itself. Why not "indulge yourself" in some Tudor history to find out why?
