Paper 1, Germany and West Germany

Paper 1, Germany and West Germany, 1918-1989

Germany limped out of the First World War into her first attempt at democracy, only to be duped by a fascist madman and descend into the pit of Nazism. They were obliterated in the Second World War, and with Allied help, nurtured their successful Federal Republic into old age. In paper 1, we will study how this happened, through 4 key themes. Political change, Opposition, control and consent. Economic policies and change and Aspects of life. So if you want to know how Germany finally navigated her political minefield, gained the eventual support of her people, created an economic powerhouse, and how her people lived through this... then we will see you in September!

History is so much more than politics and war. It is the study of people in the past, and that means knowing some culture. Use the links to experience the culture of Germany post 1945, then record how you reacted to that culture.

Films they liked (watch out for Darth Vader) and some posters for those films.

Music they liked (anyone hear a bit of ABBA in there...?)

Art they liked
