Parent and Guardian Advisory Council

Elm Creek’s Parent and Guardian Advisory Council (“PAC”) welcomes you to join us in our mission to work in collaboration with students, school staff, trustees, families and members of the Prairie Rose School Division.

The aims & objectives of Elm Creek's Parent Advisory Council ("PAC") are:

• To strengthen communication between home and school

• To promote co-operation between families, teachers, principal, trustees, educational authorities, and community. To assist families to better understand

the aims and objectives of the school

• To create better support for teachers and families

• To encourage and assist with new proposals and ideas brought forward fromteachers, principal and/or families

• To encourage provision of better school equipment, wider use of school facilities for both children and adults

• To be nonpartisan.

All school parents and guardians are welcome to attend in-person or virtually.  Contact the school office for more information on how to connect with PAC.

We encourage all community members to use the PAC co-op # 55080 at Prairie Roots Co-op for equity to be allocated to PAC.

November Activities 

    GPAC Meeting - November 27th, 2024 7:00pm at the School (All are welcome in-person or virtual)

• ECS Principal will present the School Plan for 2024/25 

• Review GPAC Annual Plan for 2024/25

• Assign GPAC Committee Chairs - 1) Infrastructure Projects, 2) Programming, 3) Fundraising and Community

    Home Cooked Meal for the Student Conference Night - November 29, 2024

    GPAC prepares a home cooked meal for staff that stay at school to prepare for that night's Student Led Conference. If you     would like to contribute reach out to 

October Activities

• This session uses the recent GPAC Survey (48 participants), past planned activities and those in attendance to present and vote on ideas for the 2024/25.  The next step in the planning process is to review the draft and finalize at the November meeting, present the plan to the principal of the school and the PRSD Board.

May 2024 Updates 

Elm Creek School Parent/Guardian Advisory Council

1) Missoula

April 22 - 27 students participated in Elm Creek’s very first Missoula Children’s Theatre Tour!  K-6 students participated in an audition process on Monday followed by a week of intensive rehearsals, culminating in two spectacular performances of musical Jack and the Beanstalk on Friday & Saturday! The students leaned into their singing, dancing, speaking and performing skills and got to learn the logistics of costumes, scripts, props and navigating backstage cues. Our talented cast was energetic and dedicated and put on a fantastic show! A great feature was displayed in the centrefold spread of the Carman Valley Leader.

Rosalee Finch, Rylee Schmidt, Macy Friesen and Alyssa Isaak dedicated their time and talents to the tour by contributing to the production as assistant directors. Lyla Dykun and Samantha Morissette were a tremendous help and ushers for each performance.  All grades 7-12 students had the opportunity to participate in three workshops offered by our Missoula tour directors for the week - Oscar and Rochanee. The students tried out improv, non verbal communication and acting.

Special thanks to the teachers and staff for being flexible, agile and supportive of the program and adapted to disruption to schedules and spaces.

This offering in our school would not have been possible without community grants from Carman Area Foundation, Carman Kinettes and Golden Prairie Arts Council. Further, a host of local sponsors made the production a reality and covered costs to host the tour for a week. Thank YOU families and community members for attending the performances and supporting Elm Creek School Parent Guardian Advisory Council (P/GAC)! Proceeds from the performances will be used for future Elm Creek School P/GAC to fund programming and school support endeavours to reduce fundraising burden for families.

APRIL ACTIVITIES

P/GAC Monthly Meeting April 24 – ratified meeting minutes are posted at Elm Creek School - Parent Advisory Council (google.com)

P/GAC and Elm Creek School Student Engagement –

1)     P/GAC received requests from ECS students for more outdoor sport equipment (donation being determined and guided by students)

2)     P/GAC received a $66.21 donation from a recent bake sale

MAY PLANNED ACTIVITIES

P/GAC Monthly Meeting – May 29, 2024 – 7:00pm at Elm Creek School – All are welcome

Elm Creek School Gym - P/GAC Submitted additional material on the need for a new gym to Government of Manitoba and PRSD. Thank you to everyone that participated in the June 2023 Gym survey, additional feedback Sept 2023 and subsequent conversations.

Classrooms Amazon Wishlist – P/GAC is working with Teachers to list needed classroom supplies on Amazon wish lists (similar to last year). Anyone can purchase of these wish lists. The needed supplies will be delivered to the school (participation is voluntary).  The school will email parent and guardians more details on May 29, 2024.

P/GAC Scholarship – P/GAC will be offering a scholarship to a graduating G12 students focusing on community work and volunteering. The school will share more details shortly.
