Title: Perseverance – The Key to Overcoming Challenges

ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors Standard (s) B-SMS 5 Perseverance to achieve long and short-term goals.

Goal Statement: Students will understand the importance of perseverance in overcoming challenges and achieving goals. 

Materials:

• Slideshow (YouTube video embedded, 4:22)

Procedures:

1. Review the “Feel Good Friday” announcement (on the first slide). 

2. Continue with the slideshow and show the video on slide 3: Steven Claunch - Overcoming Obstacles.

3. Encourage students to share their answers to the question on slide 4, "What does perseverance mean to you?"

4. After students have shared their answers, explain that perseverance is: continuing to work toward a goal even when faced with challenges or failures. 

5. Proceed to slide 5, pose the question, “What would have happened if they had given up?” and allow students time to contemplate it; however, they don't need to respond verbally. 

6. Ask the reflection questions from slide 6 and encourage students to discuss their responses with the person beside them.
