Empowering Minds, Building Futures : Quality Education for Sustainable Development
MSU-IIT, through its dedicated WE CARE Office, in a collaborative partnership with the Department of Education in Iligan City, has successfully initiated and conducted a series of supplemental review classes aimed at promoting inclusive education. This important program officially commenced on November 9, 2024, marking a significant step towards enhancing educational opportunities for all students in the region.
The review classes are expertly facilitated by experienced faculty members from MSU-IIT, who serve as knowledgeable resource persons. These educators are committed to providing comprehensive and enriching learning experiences tailored to meet the diverse needs of the students attending the sessions. Classes are conducted every weekend, ensuring consistent support and engagement, and are held at various strategically chosen school locations throughout Iligan City. These locations include notable institutions such as Iligan City National High School (ICNHS), Iligan City East National High School (ICENHS), Digkilaan National High School (Digkilaan NHS), Dalipuga National High School (Dalipuga NHS), Maria Cristina National High School (Maria Cristina NHS), and the MSU-IIT PRISM campus. This strategic approach to location selection is designed to ensure that the review class initiatives effectively reach and benefit students from all walks of life, regardless of their geographic or socioeconomic backgrounds.
By providing this much-needed supplementary support to students, the program aims to bridge the gap between high-quality educational resources and the desire to empower students to reach their full potential. This initiative is specifically focused on academically equipping students as they prepare for the critical university entrance examination, thereby fostering an environment where every individual can thrive academically and succeed in their future educational pursuits. The overarching goal is to nurture a generation of learners who are not only well-prepared for the challenges of university life but also empowered to pursue their dreams with confidence and competence.
The Technology Innovation Strategies Training (TIST) program has made great progress in giving teachers from ten district schools the know-how to create cutting-edge teaching materials using 3D printing technology. Schools made significant progress in achieving the program's objectives between September and December, with notable results showcasing ingenuity, technology adoption, and curricular integration.
Last February 21st, 2024, a significant coordination meeting was convened at the DepEd-Iligan offices, bringing together key stakeholders in the Teaching Innovation and Strategy Training (TIST) program.
This gathering laid a strong foundation for DepEd Iligan and MSU-IIT to further strengthen their partnership in educational innovation. The Local School Board (LSB) aids the program through a budget allocation of Php 600,000.00 for the acquisition of cutting-edge additive technology equipment and Sixty (60) sets of computers. This investment underscores the dedication to equipping educators with the necessary tools to improve the overall educational teaching and learning tools, enhancing the student learning outcome in this digital age.
From September to December, the schools advanced towards the project’s goal. In fact, the Iligan City National High School (ICNHS) produced a 3D-printed heart model, providing this interactive tool effectively enhances the learning experience on Biology lessons. On the other hand, ACELO Badelles Sr. Memorial High School designed and printed a pie model to aid in teaching fractions and geometry. These products are transformative learning tools that enable students to learn effectively and empower educators to create advanced instructional materials.
Different levels of improvement were demonstrated by schools such as Digkilaan National High School, Tubaran National High School, Dalipuga National High School, and Iligan City East National High School (ICENHS) by October.
Project leaders from the program visited each of the ten district schools during the project to offer instruction and assistance in producing outputs. This practical method ensured that every school received the direction they needed to advance in using 3D printing technology efficiently.
All participating schools' collective achievements were honored during the December culmination event. Anatomical models, mathematical instruments, molecular structures, and mechanical prototypes were among the products showcased by educators from different districts. Since many participants shared ideas and strategies throughout the session, these outputs not only highlighted the teachers' technical proficiency and inventiveness but also the value of teamwork.
In the age where humans rely on technology for every aspect of their lives, communication and information dissemination have advanced rapidly and extensively. However, this advancement also poses a threat to distinguishing between authentic information and the proliferation of fake news. The faculties of the College of Arts and Social Sciences, in collaboration with the WE CARE Office, conducted several training workshops for Tambo Central School (TCS) pupils on the fundamental principles, techniques, elements, and applications of journalism.
This project's primary goal is to teach journalism to Tambo Central School (TCS) pupils and familiarize them with contemporary university journalism practices. The following specific goals will be pursued to accomplish this aim:
Teach Tambo Central School (TCS) campus students the latest strategies and guidelines for producing a variety of journalism articles.
Enhance the TCS campus journalists' proficiency in authoring various journalistic pieces in Filipino and English;
Instruct TCS students on how to uphold journalistic principles and promote gender-sensitive reporting; and
Teach TCS students to practice ethical, nonviolent, and compassionate journalism.
The four-month journalism training for TCS students imparted essential principles and diverse journalistic writing skills, which included News Writing, Feature Writing, Sports Writing, and Editorial Writing. Techniques and knowledge in effective photojournalism were also shared. This project also serves as a platform for experts from the Department of Filipino and Literature and the Department of English to share their expertise on the effective use of Filipino and English in writing. Through this, students' skills in using proper grammar in both languages are enhanced.
