Stronger Communities: Shaping Sustainable and Inclusive Spaces
Stronger Communities: Shaping Sustainable and Inclusive Spaces
In advancing Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) takes proactive steps toward safer and more resilient urban environments. Through initiatives such as the “Adopt-a-City Program on Building Disaster-Resilient Community in Iligan City” and the “Implementation and Installation of Water Quality Monitoring System for Sultan Kudarat Provincial Freshwater Demonstration Fish Farm and Nursery,” MSU-IIT fosters innovation, sustainability, and preparedness—helping communities thrive in balance with nature.
Access to public spaces is the cornerstone of a vibrant, equitable, and thriving community. From ensuring public access to buildings, guaranteeing that individuals of all abilities can participate fully in civic and economic life, to providing free and open access to knowledge and resources through libraries, fostering lifelong learning and intellectual curiosity, to preserving and celebrating cultural heritage in museums, inspiring creativity and cultural understanding, and promoting physical and mental well-being through green spaces, offering opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and connection with nature, these essential resources create inclusive environments, strengthen social bonds, and enrich lives. By prioritizing public access, we invest in a future where everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, connect, and thrive.
The Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development Region 10 (DHSUD-10) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on September 23, 2024, at the Office of the Chancellor Conference Room, to collaborate on various initiatives related to sustainable urban development.
The agreement aims to address the pressing issues faced by both urban and rural communities in the country and provide effective solutions. By leveraging MSU-IIT's engineering programs, the partnership seeks to create a more advanced, sustainable, and innovative future. The agreed initiatives will directly and significantly contribute to training learners to become future leaders in the nation's urban planning and housing sectors.
