When setting up a meeting consider the following:
Do you want?
Students to use video
To silent all students when entering
Students to be in the Zoom meeting prior to you?
Do you need a password for your meeting?
Should you lock the meeting?
Select Manage Participants so window appears in the right panel
Select Chat so window appears beneath Participants panel
All controls for participants will appear such as Mute All, Unmute All. More button includes the following, please consider changing these settings to accommodate student learning
Mute participants on entering
Allow participants to unmute themselves
Play Enter/Exit Chime
Allow participants to Rename Themselves
Lock Meeting
All attendees have actions such as Yes, No, Go Slower, Go Faster
Host can select an attendee, click on More and rename, unmute, spotlight video for each attendee
After consideration on how to set up and run a Zoom meeting, there are several Classroom Management ideas to help facilitate learning in a Zoom Meeting:
Instruct students to use first name last initial when entering a Zoom meeting.
Polling - Click on the Poll button to ask a question on the fly. Poll questions can be set up in advanced of any Zoom meeting. This should be done at http://zoom.us , edit meeting and scroll to bottom of the screen to add a poll. Multiple polls can be added to a meeting.
Reactions- Students and teachers can click on the reactions button and select "clapping hands" or "thumbs-up". The image will appear on the screen of the attendee that chose it for a couple of seconds. Use this when the video is in gallery view and you can ask students to give a virtual "Thumbs-up" to check for understanding. This will still work even if the student isn't showing video.
Manage Participants- This tab will show you all the participants. Participants can use this tab to raise their hand, ask you to go slower or answer yes/no questions. You will see these symbols next to their names. This is a great option if want all students to keep their microphone off unless you "call" on them.
