What is Google Expeditions (VR/AR)
How to shift to Hybrid/Virtual Learning
Additional Resources
Google Expeditions is an immersive education app that allows teachers and students to explore the world through over 1000 virtual-reality (VR) and 100 augmented-reality (AR) tours. You can swim with sharks, visit outer space, and more without leaving the classroom.
Virtual Reality: Teachers and students use mobile devices and VR viewers to virtually explore an art gallery or museum, swim underwater, or navigate outer space, without leaving the classroom.
Augmented Reality: Teachers use mobile devices to bring objects into their classroom so students, using mobile devices, can see and walk around 3D objects as if the objects were physically in the classroom. Video (Not all devices allow for AR)
Tour Creator: Teachers can add tours they created in Tour Creator to Expeditions to guide students in their classes. Also, tours that teachers like or share to Expeditions on Poly are added automatically to their Expeditions app.
AR Tours: Teachers use mobile devices to bring objects into their classroom so students, using mobile devices, can see and walk around 3D objects as if the objects were physically in the classroom. (Not all devices allow for AR)
Before COVID, teachers used Google Goggle and mobile devices to access Expeditions. However, the goggles are not safe to use during this time.
Devices such as iPads, iPods, Chromebooks (NEW!) allow for educators to guide lessons with students. (iPads and router can be borrowed from Monroe One)
If you have access to iPads, iPods, Chromebooks, students can join an Expedition if they are within the classroom and the teacher can guide students. (Students do not need to sign in). During hybrid learning, the teacher can work with face-2-face students.
Teachers can guide face-2-face students while virtual students follow along on an iPad, iPod, iPhone, or Chromebook from home.
