What are Playlists?
According to Education Elements, “A playlist is a sequence of resources and/or activities for students to complete” and “This allows the teacher to direct students without having to be present”.
Why Should I Use Playlists with my Students?
Cult of Pedagogy states, “With playlists, the responsibility for executing the learning plan shifts: Students are given the unit [lesson, activity, etc] plan, including access to all the lessons, ahead of time. With the learning plan in hand, students work through the lessons and assignments at their own pace.”
A Playlist can be used to:
Help maintain skills that students are learning in the classroom
Check for understanding
Assign independent work or group activities
Individualize assignments for students
Creating Playlists for Students
There is no specific format for a playlist. However, most playlist look like a list and/or a table with a certain sequence of activities.
Playlists can be somewhat interactive and offer students some choice.
Most playlists are created using Microsoft Word but use tools such as Sway and PowerPoint to change up some of the playlists for students.
