Accounting 1 Overview
This course introduces students to accounting for both business and personal use, and serves as a foundation for business ownership opportunities, employment, and post-secondary studies in the areas of business.
Students are exposed to the accounting cycle, cash control systems, payroll systems, automated accounting software, and careers in accounting.
Prerequisite: Completion of Algebra I or equivalent with a grade of C or better and/or accounting instructor approval
Industry Credential: Precision Exams by YouScience ~ Accounting I
**Students enrolled in this course are required to join the SJH DECA Chapter as part of the course and will have access to extra resources as well as competitive events associated with the course material (there may be other related expenses for travel to compete in off-campus events).**

As part of this course, you will have the opportunity to take the Accounting I Certification.
The Accounting I certification helps students develop their skills beginning with an understanding of the basic elements and concepts of double-entry accounting systems related to a service business organized as a sole proprietorship. These skills include understanding the accounting equation, analyzing business transactions, entering transactions in journals, posting to ledgers, compiling end-of-period financial statements, preparing closing entries, and managing and protecting cash.
