Module 5

INTRODUCTION

Technology Tools to Create Virtual Learning Environments

Collaborative Virtual Learning Environments are one of the most effective ways to engage faculty in professional development opportunities. The flexibility offered by using video conferencing tools such as Zoom to capture a digital recording of a workshop is essential in meeting faculty needs for both live and on-demand assessment training. Virtual video conferencing allows faculty to synchronously engage in professional development workshops or access information, practice their skills, and learn about assessment practices on their own time and at their own pace by viewing recorded video sessions.

Module Objectives

In module 5, the primary objective is to engage new faculty in an interactive virtual assessment workshop titled Writing Meaningful and Measurable Student Learning Outcomes where they will practice writing student learning outcomes using a formula and incorporating Blooms taxonomy. The secondary objectives include learning about cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning domains, and aligning learning levels with appropriate action verbs and learning evaluative instruments with student learning activities.

Module Outcomes

Upon completion of this module, faculty will be able to:

  • write student learning outcomes using the Condition, Learner, Behavior, Degree formula

  • understand the differences between the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning domains

  • identify the appropriate level of learning to match the student learning experience

  • select the appropriate action verb(s) to match the level of learning for the learning experience and incorporate it into the language of the student learning outcome

  • identify an appropriate assessment mechanism to evaluate the student learning outcome

Module 5 Learning Activities (40 points)
