Raiders: Let's go to work!
Some businesses want to see a resume when you're apply for a job at their company. As a high school student, you won't have much on your resume but that's ok! They don't expect much, you're just starting out. 🙂 The link below will take you to a template that you can use to build your own resume.
Please follow these instructions to use it:
1st - open the resume template below and make a copy of it for yourself. Click on File, then Make a Copy or you can email Ms. Skaggs and she'll send you a template of your own. Ms. Skaggs: cskaggs@dentonisd.org
2nd - After you've made a copy you can start putting in your information. To replace the text with you own, just click on the text and start typing! The template text tells you exactly what to replace it with. It's perfectly ok if you don't have any work experience, you can just delete that section and any sections that don't apply to you.
3rd- make sure you include your skills, strengths, interests and/or activities! Show off! That's what a resume is for! Add all of your accomplishments, awards and volunteer work too!
As a Denton ISD student, you have access to several FREE resume resources. Adobe Spark is a professional favorite, as it has many modern templates that will help your resume stand out from the rest! To access your free Adobe Spark account, you will need to log on to your Denton ISD Single Sign On portal. You can also log into your Schoolinks account which is found through your SSO as well. Schoolinks has a resume-builder feature which you will find under the "My Profile" after login.
We've linked several resources to help you find some good buzz words to market yourself! Try to think about your day-to-day life as you look through these words and phrases. How could some of these skills and attributes apply to you?
For example: You're on the varsity basketball team and you mentor the freshman basketball players. On your resume you could include that you enjoy coaching, encouraging and mentoring others!
Are you in STUCO? Then your resume should tell about your leadership position in our school, along with how you've worked on a collaborative team that plans, prepares and hosts elaborate events for large gatherings! Sounds pretty impressive, right?
Use the words on the attached pages to help you discover some new ways to talk about the great things you do every day!
