AP credit is based on the score earned on the AP exam taken at the end of the course (usually a 3, 4, or 5). Each college decides which scores count for credit, but AP is nationally recognized.
Dual Credit awards college credit for passing the course. All Texas public colleges and universities accept it, though out-of-state schools may not. Depending on the major, it may count as an elective.
Dual Credit lets students earn high school and college credit at the same time, giving them a head start on their degree.
Benefits include:
Earning college credit without leaving campus
Building confidence with college-level coursework
Saving time and money toward a degree
Strengthening college applications
Unlike AP, Dual Credit does not require an exam—your course grade determines the credit. Students can still take the AP exam if they wish.
To qualify, students need a 3.0 GPA and readiness for college-level work.
If your student enjoys academic challenges and wants a head start on college, Dual Credit could be a perfect fit!
