We've decided to focus on this outcome at this point in the year in order to encourage residents to think about what values are salient to them and how those values come out in their actions. We're lucky enough to be able to partner with the Center for Student Leadership and Engagement in order to center this conversation about the importance of service and how you can act out on values you hold.
We're focusing on learning and action through partnering with CSLE through the Fall-In Day of Service. Not only will our residents be able to think about what values they hold, they will also be able to learn from their peers and set things in motion to take action for a cause they're passionate about.
Have you participated in service before? How did it make you feel?
When did you start to critically think about your values and how your actions align with them?
What expectations do you have for residents in your community in relation to this outcome?
How will you communicate those expectations?
Have your residents choose a community service project for you all to carry out together as a floor community
Encourage your residents to pursue a leadership position with the Fall In Day of Service!
RAs are community builders by utilizing intentional interactions and staff support to build a strong network of connected residents. RAs develop relationships with residents, support residents' leadership development, work with residents to maintain physical space within their community, and assist residents in proactively addressing individual and community conflict.
You can develop in this area by encouraging members of your community to participate in both this event, as well as the Fall in Day of Service. You will have the opportunity to serve the Clemson community, and a chance to get to know your residents better.
RAs are leaders by practicing authentic and relational actions, and by recognizing that leadership is a process and the outcome is positive change for the greater community.
You can develop in this area by getting involved with CSLE as a site leader, as well as by encouraging your residents to follow through on community service projects they're passionate about or have planned. Getting involved as a servant leader is an experience that is rewarding in more ways than one.
