I feel most present, most alive in the rehearsal room. For me, acting have always been a form of meditation: a deep listening, an embodied awareness, a collective presence. Today, fields like neuroaesthetics and neuroscience are beginning to articulate what many of us have long experienced: that this work transforms how we think, feel, and connect. It rewires our brains!
Come Back to Bed, Love (Lebanese Adaptation of A Beautiful Spell by Greg Kalleres)
I translated and adapted this Lebanese version of A Beautiful Spell in collaboration with Tarik Tamim, directed by Lina Abyad. I also co-starred alongside Elie Yussef.
An absurdist comedy, the play begins with a wife waking in the middle of the night in a state of panic, convinced she has fallen out of love with her husband. What follows is a restless, intimate unraveling as the couple spends the night searching for what has shifted and whether it can be restored.
The production premiered at Babel Theatre Studio in 2012, and was revived in 2017–18. Both runs were sold out and met with strong critical acclaim.

I co-translated this Lebanese adaptation of August: Osage County by Tracy Letts with Raffi Feghali and Mona Merhi, and co-directed the production with Raffi Feghali. I also performed the role of Karen/Tamara.
Relocated to Mount Lebanon, this adaptation staged at Babel Theatre reimagined the play’s volatile family dynamics within a distinctly Lebanese social and cultural landscape, allowing its themes of estrangement and buried truths to resonate with local specificity.

"Sahar Assaf’s acting as Tamara was a tour de force performance... Assaf found the perfect balance between Tamara’s vulnerability and her fortitude—the two aspects of the character that make her both loveable and detached." - Michael Malek Najjar, Arab Stages, Volume 2, Number 2 (Spring 2016)
I directed this production of The Dictator by Issam Mahfouz and performed the role of "Saadoun" opposite Raffi Feghali's "General." A darkly comic and sharply political work, the play probes power, authority, and the absurdity of control.

.لسحر خصوصية في أدائها بحيث تحولت البطولة إليها في شخصية سعدون، نعم شخصية ذكورية تؤديها بمنتهى الكياسة والإقناع وبعفوية فائقة وعلى قدر كبير من الذكاء
I starred as Karen in this Lebanese production of Donald Margulies' Dinner with Friends, directed by Carlos Chahine and presented at Monnot Theatre. This Pulitzer Prize–winning play traces the unraveling of two marriages, examining intimacy, loyalty, and the quiet fractures beneath long-term relationships.
I performed the title role in An Arab Woman Speaks by Dario Fo and Franca Rame directed by Rachel Valentine Smith and presented at New Diorama Theatre in London. The production was developed as part of The Faction’s Solos series exploring classical adaptation and new writing.
A short narrative film by Rachel Aoun. Had a thrill filming this while nine months pregnant!
