Anchor Experience: CULTIVATING OUR ASSETS AND AGENCY
“This experience not only strengthened my sense of purpose but also deepened my connections with colleagues”
“Finding and having this group was the missing piece I needed to not only feel empowered but also understood in the struggles of being BIPOC in this district”
“This is one of the first times I've felt comfortable enough to really talk to and get to know new people”
In this series, you will be in community with other staff of color in the district and explore your racial identity, its intersections with other parts of your identity, and cultivate your view of the assets you bring. You will have a chance to process through storytelling, find commonalities with others, and develop action plans for yourself that are sustainable and healing. This is a place for connection, creativity and play.
Some of the questions we’ll explore:
In what ways has race impacted my experiences? How does it interact with my other identities?
How can I use my assets and various forms of wealth to improve the system for myself, my colleagues and my students?
In what ways can I take care of myself beyond momentary feel-good activities, and how is that a form of resistance?
More topics based on what you want to do!
Any BIPOC staff (classified, certificated and management) are welcome to join. Supervisors are aware of this program and its benefits and we will work with them to ensure you are able to attend. Please let us know if there is any support we can provide. We also encourage members to return as we think this can be a good repeated experience that will allow you to engage at a deeper level in the topics and activities. Priority will be given to new members if we get too full.
Please commit to attending the following sessions:
9/18/25: 8:30-3:30 (full day)
11/19/25: 11:00 - 3:00 (5th, lunch, 6th)
1/21/26: 11:00 - 3:00 (5th, lunch, 6th)
3/24/26: 12:00-3:50 (3rd, lunch, 7th)
ALREADY PARTICIPATED? WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO?
RETURN TO THE MAIN AFFINITY GROUP SESSIONS
We believe there is always room for continued growth, learning, and community building. We encourage you to return to interact with new folks who join, and hope to offer leadership opportunities for you within the group to help plan and facilitate sections.
SOCIAL CONNECTIONS
District: For current and previous participants of the affinity group series, we plan on hosting two social events (December and May) that bring together staff of color in the district. We hope to see previous members of the racial affinity group as well as new members together!
School Site: Each school site will have its own programming including lunches or happy hour events for staff of color at that site to connect with each other socially. Contacts for school sites will be added by the end of May.
MENTORSHIP AND COACHING
You can request to be paired with a mentor or a coach who is a person of color to work on individual goals related to your classroom instruction, leadership or sustainability. We will try to make these matches as best as we can.
