A systematic process for recording and monitoring both positive and negative student behavior over time with the purpose of using the data to make decisions to improve student behavior.
Core Components:
Focus on positive behaviors and actively reward students to exhibiting these behaviors.
Make data-informed decisions by identifying trends and patterns.
Use the 3-tier system of support by providing a common place or platform to document school-wide expectations (Tier 1 support) and track both positive and negative student behaviors. Using data to determine trends can help school staff members identify students in need of Tier 2 and Tier 3 support. The Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions can be documented and tracked for effectiveness.
Students earn points for positive behavior. These points can be redeemed for rewards. If a school site is using the PBIS platform, both the school and individual teachers can create stores for students to redeem their points.
Simple checklists are used to quickly identify the problem behavior. Have the same options each time allows for staff members to more easily identify trends.
Record incidents in one central place that all staff members have access to and are trained in how to record information. This data can then be reviewed by the PBIS behavior team to discuss trends.
