The event organizers and partners stand for a supportive and inclusive space, where all identities are welcome. This event fosters meaningful collaboration between participants, as a way to promote collective power. All forms of harassment will be taken seriously and actions will be taken to rectify the issue. If you are a target or witness any form of harassment, please contact an organizer immediately or report it via email to isabel@frontandcentered.org.
As a way to encourage positive forms of engagement, we invite all participants to incorporate the following agreements in your toolbox and practice them during the workshops:
1 mic 1 voice (please allow people to finish sharing their thoughts)
Move up Move back (let’s give space for everyone to share their ideas. Please reflect on how much time you are taking and share your ideas in different ways, not just via mic)
Use “I” statements (avoid “we” or they”)
Listen to understand not respond (we all have different backgrounds and experiences; all of them are valuable, but let’s respect our differences. Let’s disagree with joy and be open to learning from each other)
We all have something to learn and something to teach (let´s be open to learn something new and to share something we know about. Every knowledge and experience is valuable)
Welcoming spaces are jargon-free (if you use acronyms or complex words, explain yourself. If someone said something inaccessible, raise your hand and ask)
Self-care is community care (take time for yourself if needed)
Be mindful of your positionality when speaking
Model the way (engage with empathy, love, and compassion and acknowledge each other’s brilliance)
People matter more than the activity (this event promotes active collaboration, but now one should feel discomfort or compromise their feelings for the sake of the activity. Some of these topics can trigger negative emotions, so check in with your group, be willing to pause the activity to start a conversation or give space as needed)
Decisions matter (our decisions to act, speak, and contribute reflect our intentionality)
Make space for fun (as we create new things using our imagination and experiences. Feel free to be creative and add some magic to the activities)
Don't be afraid of making mistakes, while acknowledging impact (recognizing that we are all learning and part of this involves sometimes making mistakes and learning from them, while also recognizing that all actions have an impact and acknowledge harm when done)
When possible, join calls by video and stay on mute when not speaking (please refrain from displaying inappropriate or distracting images).
Access the meeting from a quiet space, if possible. Background noise can make it hard for others on the meeting to hear.
Make space/take space: In a virtual meeting, only one person can speak at a time.
Use the reaction features on the platform to share your reactions.
Follow the facilitator’s directions about using the chat function (general comments and reactions, questions, etc.).
Ask for help. We want everyone to be able to participate in meetings, so if you cannot hear/read captions/ see video, let the facilitator know in a direct message.
Use the same Community Agreement for the chat feature as you would for email as they are both forms of public written communication and let's keep this a welcoming and free of harrassment space.
Some questions, comments or feedback may be better shared offline or in a 1:1 conversation rather than on the call; determine the best course of action accordingly.
Recognize that there are different comfort levels and technological circumstances with virtual participation, so have patience, care, and flexibility.
We strive to keep virtual and in-person spaces free of all types of harrassment. We all have responsibility on this, please help us maintining a welcoming space.
Let's build together collective power!
Our values define the way we act, what’s important to us, and our expectations for ourselves and one another. We invite all participants to adopt them and make them active assets during the activities:
Intentionality
Flexibility
Openness (open hearts and open minds)
Inclusiveness (all voices, experiences, and identities are welcome, let’s make sure to translate this into actions)
Solidarity and reciprocity
Intersectionality
Collective leadership
We recognize that mainstream formal education systems value standards, prioritizing intellectual knowledge over kindness and other forms of wisdom. These workshops are intended to welcome all forms of knowledge -from the head, the heart, the body, and the spirit. We prioritize collective power over individualism. Recognizing and valuing all forms of knowledge asks us to be open and humble, while welcoming trust and uncertainty.
