MEDICATION POLICY GUIDELINES:
In order for students to receive district-approved oral, nonprescription medication (Tylenol, Advil/Motrin, Benadryl & Tums or their generic equivalents) while at school, the parent/guardian must complete and sign a Medication: Parent/Guardian Request form and send the age appropriate medication to school in the original properly labeled container (smallest container available). The nurse may administer up to 10 doses of the medication, after 10 doses a doctor’s note will be required.
All other nonprescription medications must have a doctor’s note/prescription and be in the original properly labeled container. The parent/guardian must complete and sign the Medication: Parent/Guardian Request form and bring the medication to the school.
Prescription medication that cannot be scheduled for other than school hours may be given at school. We must receive a completed and signed Medication: Parent/Guardian Request form. The medication must be in the original properly labeled container; No loose medication in baggies. Expired medications will not be administered.
Students are not allowed to have any type of medication in their procession; this includes prescription medication, over-the-counter medications, vitamins or herbs. PLEASE DO NOT SEND MEDICATION TO SCHOOL WITH YOUR CHILD. A parent/guardian must drop off the medication in the front office or in the nurse’s office. Students with asthma, severe allergies, diabetes etc. may be permitted to carry and self-administer medication if needed. Please see the school nurse for additional information.

District Approved Oral, Over-the -Counter Nonprescription Medication:

Motrin (Ibuprofen) or Generic Equivalent
Benadryl (Diphenhydramine ) or Generic Equivalent
Tums or Generic Equivalent
All other Over-the-Counter Nonprescription Medication must have a prescription or doctor's note to be administered by the nurse. Parents are always welcome to come to school to administer medication to their own child.
Medication Disposal:
Medication must be picked up by a Parent/Guardian by the last day of school or it will be disposed of according to FISD policy via an authorized medical waste management contractor. Medication will NOT be sent home with students or kept in the clinic over the summer.
