DATE OF CAMP: WATCH FOR COMMUNICATION FROM YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER - TO BE ANNOUNCED AT LATER DATE
Over-the-Counter Medication: FISD policy states that the following over- the- counter medications may be administered by the nurse but must be provided by the parent along with a signed FISD Medication Consent form – Tylenol (acetaminophen), Advil/Motrin (ibuprofen), Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and Tums .
If you think your child may need any of the approved over- the -counter medications, please send it in its original container (no loose medication in baggies) labeled with your child’s name, place all medication in a ziplock bag – space is limited, please send medications in the smallest containers possible.
All other over-the-counter medications (Zyrtec, Claritin, Mucinex, nasal spray etc.) must have a DOCTORS note or a prescription label stating the dosage and frequency to give the medication. Your doctor may fax the note/prescription to the clinic at 469-633-3685. Vitamins, Essential oils, nutritional supplements or non FDA approved items will not be administered – please do not send.
Prescription Medication: Prescription medication must be in the original container with an attached prescription label. I cannot administer expired medication nor can I administer medication that is not prescribed to your child (example – a sibling or parents inhaler). Please contact your pharmacy if you need an extra container or label – they will provide one for school use. When preparing the medication - send in only the amount that I will be administering – example: if your child takes a prescription medication every morning – I need 2 doses – a dose for Thursday and Friday morning.
Asthma: If your child has asthma or other respiratory related conditions I strongly suggest sending an inhaler with spacer/chamber. We will be outside in the woods for 3 days, including one evening spent around a campfire, environmental and weather triggers for asthma/allergies are very strong.
Parent Chaperones: If you are attending camp with your child I do not need your child’s medication. You as a parent can carry and administer whatever is needed to your child.
Sunscreen/Bug Spray: Students are allowed to carry and apply their own sunscreen and bug spray. FISD does not provide sunscreen or bug spray for students and students may not share their sunscreen or bug spray with others due to possible allergies.
Other: Please complete the medication form in your packet in its entirety. This provides me with helpful information when planning administration times. Please be specific. If it is a medication that is only taken once daily, please specify AM or PM. If you are not planning to send any medications, please write “NO MEDS” across the form.
If your child currently has medication in the clinic and I have the paperwork on file, I will be taking those medications with me. You will not need to fill out any additional paperwork for those medications.
DO NOT SEND IN MEDICATION WITH YOUR CHILD; DO NOT PACK YOUR CHILD’S MEDICATION IN THEIR LUGGAGE – Parents may drop off medication with the front desk, the nurse office or turn it in to the nurse on luggage drop off night. MEDICATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED ON DAY OF DEPARTURE.
Illness Information: We want to make every effort to reduce the chance of illness for each child during our time away. Please observe FISD guidelines regarding school/camp exclusion related to illness:
If your student is complaining of or exhibiting signs of illness, please monitor his/her temperature/symptoms the evening prior to and morning of departure to camp. Flu Symptoms include sudden fever of 100 or greater, headache, cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, tiredness, and/or body aches. Vomiting and/or diarrhea have also been reported.
In order to prevent the spread of illness, and in the best interest of a child who is sick, a student may not return to school until they have a temperature under 100 degrees for a full 24 hours WITHOUT receiving any fever reducing medication such as Tylenol or Motrin. These guidelines also apply to camp.
If your child becomes sick while at camp, you will need to drive to camp to pick them up immediately.

We appreciate all parents adhering to these guidelines in order to prevent the spread of the flu and other illnesses. We realize that it may be terribly disappointing for students not to attend camp, but we have to make responsible decisions to prevent the spread of illnesses to others and to support the recovery process for the sick child.
