School nurses routinely assess illness and treat minor injuries on campus, but they also have the training, skills and resources to assist in the event of a more serious emergency. Response activities include identifying emergent situations, managing the emergency until relieved by emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, communicating the assessment and interventions to EMS personnel and following up with the health care provider.
Protocols established by the District’s Medical Advisor are available on request from the school nurse. Please contact your school nurse with any questions.
Note:
If a child SHOWS NO IMPROVEMENT OR THEIR CONDITION HAS DETERIORATED: EMS / 911 will be called immediately & parents will be notified. Parent MAY NOT refuse transport unless present. School Nurse will notify Administrator.
If your child has a medical concern such as Epilepsy, Asthma, Diabetes, Needs an EpiPen Auto Injector or other Medically Fragile Condition, see the Printable Forms & Medications Pages for more information on forms to complete WITH your Doctor. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CHILD AT SCHOOL WITHOUT THEIR LIFE SAVING MEDICATION.
Since the August 2020 Update and without change : In an effort to reduce the possible spread of COVID-19 within our campuses and based on the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics and local health officials, Frisco ISD is discontinuing the use of nebulizer treatments at school this year. Instead, parents of students with respiratory issues such as asthma should contact their healthcare providers to discuss alternative treatments, such as inhalers with spacers, that can be safely used at school.
