Stomachache:
· Assessment for a fever, abdominal tenderness, asking about worries.
· Eating their snack (or lunch)
· Drinking water and using bathroom.
· Rest for 15 mins , read a book
· Return to class after rest and treatment.
*If your child has frequent stomachaches from constipation, worry or other concerns please talk with their teacher and nurse. It is helpful to know what already helps at home or what your preferred plan of action would be for the teacher to take if your child is a daily complainer. If you have discussed frequent tummy aches with your physician, I recommend doing this to ensure there are not other concerns that could be getting overlooked. Be sure they leave home each morning well rested, fed and with a positive outlook for the day ahead.
Headache:
· Assessment for a fever, hydration, hunger, stress, missing glasses/contacts, difficulty with a subject, head injury.
· Drinking water
· Eating their snack.
· Rest and or ice pack if needed.
· Return to class after rest and treatment.
Sore Throat:
· Assessment for a fever, redness or white patchiness to throat or oral mucous indicating possible infection.
· Drinking water and blowing nose (usually post nasal drainage symptoms if lacking other findings).
· Salt water gargle once .
· Return to class after assessment and treatment.
Minor scrapes/bumps/'twists'/bug bites:
· Assessment for severe injury involving Range of Motion, Strength, Circulation, Sensation, Blood Flow, Pain, Swelling, Deformity, etc.
· Caladryl or Benadryl (may not be name brand) cream for a few itchy bug bites , not an entire limb of old bites
· Bactine/Antiseptic spray or Soap & Water to clean scrapes or blood from scratching a bug bite .
· Band-aid, ace wrap, various bandages.
· Rest and ice if needed.
· Return to class.
*Please Note* ALL students with strains/sprains/twist type injuries are encouraged to return to clinic that day if interventions did not help or pain/swelling increasing. Nurse will call home if assessment indicates need for Xray, or further medical care. Most minor PE/Recess twists/sprains resolve with resting the area, ice pack for 10-20 minutes, may wrap to compress and elevation - R.I.C.E. A note will be sent home . Always refer to your Medical Provider for lingering concerns. Old injuries cant be treated and new injuries treated after school hours require a doctors note specific to in school care if care is to be given .
Red / Irritated eyes due to irritation and/or allergies:
· Assessment for injury or possible pink eye.
· Eye wash/flush using tap water or cold compress (may include a cold wet towel). In some instances, eye wash/saline drops may be administered to soothe.
· Return to class.
Ear Ache:
Assessment of outer ear area and outer ear canal. That's as far as we can see into the ear at school .
If no signs of infection or foreign body, student may return to class. *Any foreign body removal will be referred to Doctor.
Warm wet towel or compress (provides only temporary relief) but will not last for long, if the student returns you will be notified.
*No longer accepting clothing donations. The clinic will no longer have clothing. Students should bring own change of clothes in event of accident or contact a parent if needed during the school day.

Purell or Bath & Body Works Hand sanitizer (small pump bottles for personal use at desk, not shared with students)
Cleaning wipes for surfaces (Clorox, Lysol, generic or any brand will do)

Saltines
· A bump to the head with symptoms of a possible concussion or other concerns , redness from that bump remaining after care provided .
· Any Bleeding that won’t improve , this includes nosebleeds
· Possible fracture or pain and discomfort when moving the extremity
· Significant injury / circumstance / frequent visits to clinic
· Symptoms of dizziness when vital signs are not reading normal for age and activity . If not eaten breakfast , snack or lunch yet . Post PE challenges .
· Vomiting whether from coughing or real food or a "burp in my mouth" . Witnessed or reported .
· Diarrhea , or repeated use of the restroom for reported loose stools
· Fever of 100.0 F or > or approaching this temp with additional symptoms , or if symptoms present and the student stated he had "medicine this morning "
· Eye injury / redness to eye / discharge , non allergic . The clinic can't place allergy eye drops in your childrens eyes . That is not a stock item .
· Unknown rash , persistent scratching of an unknown rash or redness
*Symptoms of COVID19 - see separate symptom list and current updates on the FISD website. Please do not send your child to school for the nurse to decide , nurses can't diagnose, we can only evaluate and note symptoms related to COVID 19 as currently indicated by the CDC and by FISD protocols . Your child may be sent home based on those resources and you will need to abide by their guidance and provide follow up care as suggested with your healthcare providers.
Or if your child says to their teacher that they were sick at home or overnight, took medicine for fever, vomiting, diarrhea.
If your child states any other concerns that could pose a risk to other students or staff health.
Any reasonable symptom or condition needing the parents attention at the discretion of the nurse.
It takes everyone working together to keep our communities healthy.
· Vomiting (even just once or after snack or lunch or with coughing) witnessed or reported
· Diarrhea or frequent runs to the bathroom
· Fever of 100.0 F >
· Unknown rash , redness to skin that isn't relieved by topical itch medicines
· Bleeding that won’t improve or cannot be contained with a bandage , this includes frequent nosebleeds .
· Signs of severe illness, including fever, irritability, difficulty breathing, crying or anxiety that doesn’t stop with the usual comforting, or extreme sleepiness. The clinic can't be a resting or napping spot for students this year for safety .
· Significant injury / circumstance beyond applicable FISD First Aid .
