FLU NEWS
The “FLU” is a contagious respiratory disease that is caused by a virus. The flu is transmitted when a sick person sneezes, coughs or talks. The virus is expelled into the air and can be inhaled by anyone who is in close proximity. It can also be transmitted by direct hand contact and the virus can live for hours on doorknobs and phones.
If your child is diagnosed with the flu, please notify us immediately. If possible, ask the doctor if your child has "Type A" or "Type B" flu. We will ask you for this information when you call to report that your child has the flu. We ask this because it helps us keep track of flu trends for the County. No personal information is passed on to the County, only the number of students out with the flu, and type of flu they have.
PREVENTION:
1. Get a flu shot . . . it CANNOT give you the flu!! You don’t want to get the seasonal flu shot too early in the fall because you want your immunity to last throughout the entire flu season.
2. Keep up your resistance to infection with a good diet, plenty of rest and regular exercise. Send your student with water daily, even if cold outside.
3. Avoid exposure to the flu virus. Wash your hands OFTEN and keep your hands away from your nose, mouth and eyes.
4. In the presence of Covid 19 , you don't want the flu also ! Talk to your healthcare provider for more information on this.
