On Saturday, December 8th, the 7/8th grade academic team went to Shawnee for an ORES State competition. First, we all went to McDonald's for breakfast, and it was connected to a gas station so we could get a small snack if we wanted too. When we arrived at the High School we had to compete in, we arrived a little bit early so we got to go to the Shawnee Mall for about an hour. Unfortunately we had 9 people and we could only have 8 people on the team. Hannah said that she would sit out. Then it was finally time to answer away. After a lot of rounds, we eventually had to leave because we lost. However, we placed 5th out of 23 different schools! Finally, after we left, we went to What-a-burger for dinner. Overall, it was extremely fun to challenge different schools and see what we would be able to place.

Our most recent quiz bowl meet was on Wednesday December 4th. On Wednesday, we had the most nerve-wracking meet that I’ve ever experienced against Krebs. It was the 2nd round, 2nd half, and the score at the end was 230 - 220; and we were winning by 10 points. Then it was the lightning round. The other team went first; luckily they got some of the questions wrong. Then, it was our turn for the lightning round. The only two choices we had were Math or Geography; and we chose math. We got some of the answers wrong; and we only needed 5 correct answers to beat the other team. We got 1, then 2, then 3. My heart was racing. Then 4, finally, at the last question, we got the last one correct and we won, just by 10 points.

September
The first quiz bowl meet on September 9th was awesome. We got folders of facts to look at in our free time. We all had much fun buzzing in our answers by saying buzz or other words. The entire team got a list of our competitions with the dates. I hope we’ll have lots of fun this year!! The competitions look fun even if we have to read Harry Potter for one.
The second meeting was stellar. The team got snacks from our lovely Mrs. Smith (previously known as Gilliam) from Falcon Club. Everyone got to decide on our new wonderful shirt designs which are super cute!
