AP/DE Environmental Science

Dual Enrollment Environmental Science is a 1-credit semester long college-level course. The course is designed with the scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world. Sustainability, economics, and energy requirements of the future are all connected concepts that will be considered in each topic. It differs significantly from general high school Environmental Science courses with respect to the level of textbook, range and depth of topics, the type and intensity of lab work, data collection and analysis, and the time and effort required of students inside and outside the classroom. This course aims to provide students with the conceptual framework, factual knowledge, and analytical skills necessary to deal critically with ever changing environmental problems and resolutions thereof. This is a laboratory science course and a laboratory notebook must be kept to potentially receive college credit for the lab portion of the course. This course utilizes a college textbook and will require students to be motivated and committed to do reading and research outside of class.

Students may choose to take the AP Environmental Exam in May if desired.

Dual Enrollment credit (4 hours) can be earned with the successful completion of this course (final grade of "C" or better), provide through Ferrum College. Tuition fees apply.

If you have questions, please contact Mrs. A. McGeorge, Science Department Co-Chair, alicia.mcgeorge@frco.k12.va.us.
