Connect 4 Cancer (C4C) is Franklin High School’s (FHS) cancer awareness club. Its goals include spreading awareness, raising funds, and making an impact in the fight to put an end to cancer. Last Saturday, C4C hosted a pickleball tournament to help raise funds. All proceeds made from the tournament were donated to the Nick Strong Foundation, an organization that supports pediatric cancer research and people who are affected by it. The tournament took place at the FHS tennis courts, kicking off at 11 a.m.
The tournament was run by club advisors, officers, and volunteers. Club president, Ella Mahoney, described how the event was created to get as many people in the community involved as possible. “Pickleball has been all the rage, so we thought it would be perfect!”, she said, referring to how many different age groups are interested in pickleball.
Matches are played on all courts.

At the tournament, participants including students and individuals in the community, paid $10 for a ticket and formed teams where they would play against other teams in a bracket. The tournament was very inclusive and welcomed players at any experience level. Jayden Arroyo, an FHS sophomore and participant in the tournament, explained that he played in the competition to “get out and do something fun.”
Winners of the tournament, “The Italian Lob,” or Lou Moccia and his son Ben Moccia, won the fundraiser, receiving a $100 Amazon gift card rewarding their success.
