Community Connections

All Capstone candidates were participating in the networking event, which was an opportunity for us to meet with a professional for the first time to discuss the details of our project and get their insight. I was paired up with Stephanie Ocasio, who works at the VOYA Finances company. I appreciate meeting with her since the meeting went fantastically well and she was kind enough to provide her perspective on the topic I would be researching.

I knew Professor Liberty Page due to my connection with her through the cybersecurity camp I went over the summer, GenCyber Agent Academy. She is the professor at University of New Haven and she was kind enough to meet together through a virtual call. We were able to discuss the details and the topic of application of artificial intelligence in the field of cybersecurity.

Another community contact I knew through GenCyber Agent Academy was Dr. Behzadan. He is the assistant professor at University of New Haven that I knew was studying the application of AI and was also specialized in the field of cybersecurity. He was very knowledgeable and gave his honest and informative opinion on my topics. In addition, he was able to provide me with some other resources and materials I can look into that he thought would be useful.

As I was researching for different opportunities for summits or conferences, at first, I had a slightly rough start. However, after doing a deeper dive, I was able to find Human Layer Security Summit. As I was reading more about the focus of the summit, I have realized it didn't had much of the focus on AI, however it was still useful anyhow. Learning about the human aspect of cybersecurity was very informative and I appreciate that I attended it.

I wanted to attend more conferences or summits, and was able to find out through my personal connections with other organizations, about the summit "SANS New2Cyber". It was focused on the newer individuals who were interested in having a career in cybersecurity. I appreciated going to one of their sessions on the topics I was personally interested in, about AWS and APIs.

As I was moving forward in my process of writing my research paper, I wanted to meet up with a professional to discuss what I have so far. Through GenCyber Agent Academy, I got a hold of the guest speaker that I met, Jonathon Williams. He works in the private company, Bishop Fox, as a senior operator. I had a pleasure talking to him about the topics mentioned in my research paper, in addition to the discussion of general issue within cybersecurity field. He was able to give me informative insight about his opinion, in addition to also revealing more about his career and how to get to the point of having a prestigious job in the field of cybersecurity.
