Who Am I?
My name is Ekaterina Vasilyeva and I am a high school senior at Farmington High School in Connecticut. I am part and one of the leaders of the FIRST Robotics Competition teams 178 - 2nd Law Enforcers. I am interested in having a career in computer science and cybersecurity in the future, and I am doing my best to achieve my dream goal. I also like baking, and video games, and am in love with science.
Ever since I was little, I was surrounded by a computer-science lexicon due to my parents, working in the QA (Quality Assistance) and computer science fields. With us, moving to the US from Europe, I was able to find opportunities to explore STEM and CS and pursue my passion. I was able to participate in Kode with Klossy camp, GenCyber Agent Academy camp, and be part of the FRC team, which helped me further my knowledge and gain more experience of what it's like being in the CS and STEM field. With those skills gained, over the summer, I was able to get the internship position at Agiloft, Inc. which I am continuing to do up to this day. With this internship and being part of the data science team there, I was able to gain a lot of experience of what it's like working with artificial intelligence models and further my experience working in the CS industry.
Why did I choose Capstone Science Research?
As someone who plans on proceeding with their future career in the cybersecurity field, I was highly interested in taking the Capstone class. I wanted to work and get a very in-depth experience of diving into the field. When I took this class, I already knew that I wanted to combine cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. However, I wasn’t sure how I would be able to do that. I appreciate having a conversation with Mrs. Tebbetts and Mr. Barron about this and asking for their own opinion and input. They both helped me guide and create an idea that I would be very interested in researching throughout the entire school year.
After going through the year of this course, this was definitely a learning stretch for me. I went from knowing barely anything about artificial intelligence, to knowing the basic and some intermediate concepts of cybersecurity and AI, and being able to explain them to someone else. Moreover, I grew my knowledge to the point of opening up interesting discussions with professionals in the field on the topics related to cybersecurity today and usage of AI.
