The Year 6 children have made an amazing start to this school year and have already achieved so much over this half term! How they've settled in to being the top of the school has been wonderful to see!
We've done some great writing based on the war in English (a brilliant example of editing and red pen work below), been reading Pig Heart Boy (which has allowed us some great discussion about ethical concerns), and written fantastic balanced arguments based on this. To start our writing journey we will always analyse a 'model text', and handwriting forms part of our English lessons too.
Maths
In Maths, we've been learning about place value and calculations (including BIDMAS, rounding, long division to name just a few of the things). The children have excelled and really got stuck into some meaty problems! Here are some examples of their hard work below:
History and Geography
In History, we've been learning about World War 2. We started off by learning about chronology and looked at time lines in order to pin point where in history WW2 took place. Within History, we've also learned about countries and therefore used atlases to enhance our learning. In Geography, we've looked at the equator, and lines of latitude and longitude.
Last week, we also had a fantastic trip to Eden Camp, which the children loved, where we learned more about the rise of Hitler, the Blitz, evacuation, amongst many other things! The children enjoyed time in the playground and also gift shop!
SPORT
During this half term, Year 6 have been involved in lots of sporting activities. First of all all, Year 6 boys were involved in a football match with Keelham where Foxhill came out on top! In addition to this, the children ran the cross country, competing against their class mates, and then 4 children went on to represent Foxhill against 8 other schools, where again, we came out on top, with the individual children really doing us proud! The last sporting event was the Dodgeball tournament where our children ran the other schools close in some close encounters!
The children also enjoyed a skipping workshop with Dan the Skipping Man!
ART CLUB
Our Year 5/6 Art Club embraced the spooky season by creating Halloween portraits inspired by Tim Burton’s distinctive style. We explored how exaggerated features, large eyes and imaginative details could transform our drawings into wonderfully eerie characters. The children added their own creative touches, giving each portrait a unique personality. It was a fantastic opportunity to develop our drawing skills and let our imaginations run wild!
Have a great October Half Term and we shall see you all back and raring to go in the build up to Christmas!
