What a wonderful start to Year 4!
Our first half term has been packed full of exciting experiences, new challenges and fantastic learning opportunities. From cross country and a handball tournament to a skipping workshop, we have certainly been keeping active! We have also been busy cooking in DT, taking part in the Money Matters Festival and enjoying a range of harvest-themed activities, including learning a poem off by heart and creating some truly eye-catching artwork. What a busy but wonderful start to the year it has been! Most importantly, the children have settled brilliantly into Year 4, classroom routines are now well established, and it has been lovely to see everyone growing in confidence and enthusiasm. We are so proud of the fantastic start they have made and can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings!
Excellent English in Year 4!
Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed exploring our first class novel, The Queen's Nose! The children have been captivated by the story and loved reading the whole novel, discovering the twists and turns along the way. We particularly enjoyed exploring the animal character theme running throughout the book and discussing what it revealed about the different characters. Inspired by the story, the children have produced some fantastic pieces of writing, including diary entries and news blogs, showcasing their creativity, imagination and developing writing skills. We have been so impressed by the high standard of work produced. Take a look at some of our wonderful writing – we think you'll agree that we have some talented young authors in Year 4!
Budding Bakers in Year 4!
We have had a fantastic time in DT this half term, getting stuck into making our very own pizzas and bread! We were amazed to discover that some shop-bought breads can contain up to 18 ingredients, compared to just the four simple ingredients we used to make our own bread. The children loved getting hands-on with mixing, kneading and shaping their dough, and of course, the highlight was taste testing our delicious creations! We certainly have some budding bakers in Year 4!
Fantastic Teamwork at the Handball Tournament! 🤾
Year 4 had a brilliant time taking part in the handball tournament! The children showed fantastic teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout, working together brilliantly and encouraging one another every step of the way. A real highlight was seeing the children cheering each other on from the sidelines, celebrating successes and offering encouragement. It was wonderful to see such a positive team spirit, and we were incredibly proud of the way everyone represented our school. Well done, Year 4!
Skipping into Action!
Year 4 had a fantastic time taking part in our skipping workshop! The children learnt lots of exciting new skills and tricks, putting their coordination, balance and determination to the test. Some of the challenges were particularly tricky, but we were so impressed by the resilience shown as the children kept practising and persevering, even when things didn't quite go to plan! It was wonderful to see everyone giving it their best shot, and we certainly discovered some very talented skippers along the way! What a fun and energetic experience!
Science
Year 4 have made a fantastic start to their Science learning this term! Our topic, Living Things and Their Habitats, has seen us explore the seven life processes known as MRS GREN. We have also been learning about vertebrates and invertebrates, identifying the differences between animals with backbones and those without. We have been exploring how to classify plants into different groups based on their characteristics. The children have shown great curiosity and enthusiasm throughout their learning!
Hot Seating with Harmony! 🎤
As part of our English work on The Queen's Nose, we had great fun using hot seating to step into the shoes of Harmony! The children imagined they were reporters interviewing Harmony after she had won a free bike. They worked together to think of thoughtful and interesting questions, considering how Harmony might be feeling and what she might say in response. It was a fantastic way to explore her character, develop our questioning skills and gather ideas for our news blog writing!
Amazing Artists in Year 4!
Year 4 have been busy exploring the wonderful world of still life art! We began by studying the work of artist Giorgio Morandi, looking closely at how he arranged objects and used composition in his artwork. We then turned our attention to nature, carefully observing the intricate details of feathers and leaves. The children enjoyed creating leaf rubbings to reveal the beautiful patterns and textures hidden within them. Inspired by our studies of still life drawings, we used viewfinders to focus on interesting compositions before creating our very own still life artwork. We then experimented with patterns to fill the negative space, producing some truly eye-catching pieces!
From all of the Year 4 Team have a relaxing half term and we'll see you in November!
The children will need painting shirts for Art lessons every Monday from 9th Nov please!
