It has been an action-packed half term filled with discovery, creativity, and big milestones. Here is a look back at everything our little learners have been exploring!
In Nursery, we treat our outdoor space as a natural classroom! Playing outdoors gives children the freedom to explore, move, and connect with the world around them in ways that indoor play simply can't match.
Here is why outdoor play is such a key part of our daily routine:
Physical Development: Running, climbing, and balancing build strong muscle strength, coordination, and overall physical confidence.
Creativity & Curiosity: Mud kitchens, bug hunts, and leaf collecting spark endless imagination and early scientific thinking.
Social Skills & Wellbeing: Playing outside encourages teamwork, problem-solving, and natural stress relief through fresh air and active movement.
What a fantastic term it has been as we’ve explored the theme of Marvellous Me and My Family! Our key texts—Who Are You?, Dotty Doughnut, and The Worrysaurus—have sparked wonderful discussions and activities.
The children have loved diving into imaginative play in our Doctor’s Surgery and Baby Clinic, and we’ve been busy learning all about ourselves. A real highlight was comparing pictures of the children now with their baby photos, and more recently, exploring special occasions and how different families celebrate.
Thank you so much for sending in all the wonderful photos—they have made our learning space extra special!
We’ve had a fabulous time bringing maths to life this term! The children have been building a strong foundation in number by listening to, saying, and using number names during daily counting games and songs. They’ve also been exploring early problem-solving by comparing groups of objects to determine if there are more than, fewer than, or the same number of items. Alongside our number work, we've explored repeating patterns using sounds and objects, and enjoyed hands-on play building and exploring with a variety of shapes and objects—developing spatial reasoning and geometry skills through play!
Physical development has been a major focus for us this term, both through big active movements and fine, detailed control!
Gross Motor Skills: During our PE sessions—both indoors and out in the fresh air—as well as during our energetic morning activities, the children have been building balance, coordination, and spatial awareness through whole-body movement.
Fine Motor Skills: Back in the classroom, we’ve been busy strengthening little hand and finger muscles through play and creativity. From squishing, rolling, and pinching playdough to mark-making in shaving foam and diving into open-ended creative art activities, the children are building the dexterity, finger strength, and control needed for confident tool use and writing.
We loved celebrating European Day of Languages! The children enjoyed learning about different cultures, with a special focus on embracing Greek-one of the languages spoken right here in our classroom. It was wonderful hearing new words and sharing in each other's language backgrounds!
We hope you all have a lovely half term and we will see you after the holidays.
