Well done Year 2 for getting back into the swing of learning after the Summer and for all your hard work. We have been earning class stars for the jar by doing something impressive, such as quiet work, using manners, team work, enthusiasm in learning and of course, our super Harvest assembly! We've been very busy in this first half term being creative, so here are some highlights!
Learning in Autumn 1
Last week we used the ipads and stylus pens to recreate the pointillism style of Art, from French artists 120 years ago. Mrs Dean and Miss Bodiam were so blown away with this, we had to share them! We used a rainbow view from our KS1 areas as inspiration. How beautiful are our 'paintings'?!
We have been learning about human and physical features in Geography, also known as man-made and natural. We spotted these on our local area walk, although the fog did make some harder to spot! Some features in Queensbury are a mixture of human and physical as our farms are made of physical soil, grass and plants, but the walls, fences and farmhouse make them a human features. We learnt new vocabulary as we spotted the valley from our high view point outside the classroom.
We have been inspired by art depicting water and waves, such as the work of Beth Krommes. After learning a variety of new mark- making shapes, we practised with different drawing media and to music, to vary the speed and style of water we were creating. We created textured backdrops using a variety of water-themed patches and then chose either paint, oil pastel or chalk pastel to create our final watery scene with techniques to show the changing colours water appears to have, the droplets and spray.
Some beautiful pieces, well done Year 2!
We've really enjoyed our Friday afternoon music sessions, especially when the instruments have come out! We've practised copying rhythms using the drum sticks and then improvising our own rhythms in call and response songs. We used two notes on the glockenspiels to copy the high and low notes we heard in short phrases of melody - not easy - but we did so well! Our partners helped by singing the high and low pattern, then singing the note colour and finally the note name. Mrs Dean loved being the conductor for our little band!
Have you heard your child talking about our special writing quests? In Year 2 we receive letters from a mystery Professor who contacts us with inventing, drawing and coding (writing) challenges through our portal. If we succeed in meeting the challenge in our writing, we earn a piece of treasure, which arrives in the portal, and we can progress along the Curious Quest map. The further we go, the more we are helping Professor Klunk to defeat the baddy, known as The Greap! Our Faithful friends - Rosa, Lovelace and Rembrandt - help us along the way. A huge cheer goes up when treaure arrives and we celebrate with a gad-about song! Mrs Dean and Professor Klunk have been really pleased with our effort and the sentences we are writing!
Have a relaxing half term and we'll see you in November!
