Consider this collection of Digital Reading strategies, ideas to help soothe testing anxiety and ways to get some practice with Pear Assessment.
March is a great time to start helping students build mental stamina for our test dates in May. In the Smore page on the left, I have a series of resources including test tools like Edulastic, articles that talk about how to help students increase stamina and tips for how to use TestNav.
TestNav uses the Read&Write extension for online reading accommodations. The player can be moved around on the screen so that it does not block text or questions sets.
Hover Text - when selected, there will be a line under the icon and the play button will be grayed out (as pictured above). Students will need to press the location in the text where they would like the reader to begin. Double press the hover speech icon to re-enable the play button.
Double press the settings icon to enter the settings area. Here you can customize the highlight text and speed of the reader, if needed.
If students are having difficulty getting the online reader to work, try the following:
Make sure students are rapidly double pressing the icon they want to select
Make sure the Hover text icon is not selected (there will be a blue line under it and the play button will be grayed out) - if it is, double press the Hover icon to reengage the Play icon
Have students advance to the next question then return to the question
Have students go the person icon and select Sign out of TestNav
When students have signed out, you will need to communicate to the main test proctor for your building that the student's test needs to be resumed
Sign up for a free account to set up a basic classroom and add assessments in different content areas. Might be good for KSA like assessments.
Be sure to check out the math section for EngageNY assessments to use for practice.
