Wider World and World of Work

“With the realization of one’s own potential and self-confidence in one’s ability, one can build a better world.”

Wider World & World of Work

It is claimed that the average student leaving school today will have 14 different jobs by the age of 38. Girls leaving FSG therefore will perhaps now more than ever, need to be adaptable in the workplace, be able to learn new skills quickly and be able to network effectively to create opportunities. We must prepare our girls to flourish in a world of fewer jobs for life and where careers continually evolve. As part of the FSGBacc award, we will provide you with opportunities to learn more about different careers and higher education, helping you to plot a path beyond the 7 years that you will spend with us at FSG. You may want to begin to think about the path that you intend to take after school; knowing this can provide you with the motivation to push yourself beyond your known limits. We will provide you with the ‘raw’ information needed about careers and labour markets but much more than this we will give you the opportunity to ‘Grow, Learn and Develop’ – the GoLD standard in education! Exam results, as important as they undeniably are, only take us so far. You will get outstanding qualifications but those qualifications do not define who you are and will play only a part in shaping the person you will become. The FSGBacc, our personal development and character education programme, aims to develop a range of essential skills – those highly transferable skills that everyone needs - problem solving, leadership, teamwork, communication; social & emotional skills, behaviours and resilience. These raise aspirations and motivation and have been linked to improved academic attainment, professional competencies, self-efficacy and social and emotional well being; self-confidence! The world is full of opportunities and we want you to not only be able to grab these with both hands but to create them!

We are committed to Leadership Learning and so throughout your time at FSG you’ll complete a range of activities and be asked to reflect on how these have supported you as you ‘Grow, Learn and Develop’ in your Leadership Learning journey. In year 9, you’ll begin to create a personal statement that reflects all of your many achievements and in Year 10 you’ll have the opportunity of a ‘mock job interview’ where you’ll have the chance to discuss your personal statement, to sell yourself and convince a prospective employer that ‘You’re the one’. In year 11 work experience presents a real life learning opportunity and in year 12 you have a whole host of opportunities through our FSGAmbassador Scheme, internship opportunities and you’ll have a second mock interview having honed your technique and in preparation for your next steps! You’ll ALSO have the opportunity to complete the Ivy House Award, a prestigious Leadership Learning award, which considers The Ivy House 7 and represents the culmination of your Leadership learning here at The Folkestone School for Girls
