Performance

"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear. "

Performance

Performance - activities could include dance, theatre and drama, musical performance, choir, debating or public speaking. Perhaps you compete for the school in one of our many sporting fixtures and have to perform under pressure? Perhaps you have a leadership role and are required to provide instructions to, or lead, others – Maybe as an FSG Language Ambassador – delivering MFL lessons to local primary students? Perhaps you are a presenter for Radio FSG? Or perhaps you are backstage - but still at the heart of - the big school production! Oracy is the ability to articulate ideas and engage with others. Its an essential life skill and a big part of the FSGBacc award.

Working together with the new skills that you will learn, Performance is an area of huge potential for person growth. Not all performance is given on a stage or dancefloor; you don't have to behind a microphone or a lectern. To perform might be to explain the safety checks of a mountain bike to a group of 8 pupils. It might be to debate a topic from a point of view, to present or produce a radio show. You might work with the Young Enterprise to design a business or marketing campaign.

The purpose of performance is to bring you out of your comfort zone, to challenge you to try new things and build confidence. You might start by explaining something to one person, then to 5, and 10, and eventually to your whole class. These small steps are important, and will help you to grow. Not only that, but these small challenges prepare you for bigger challenges in the future: exams, interviews, your first day at university, or your first day at your dream job. These challenges are all opportunities.
