In 2022, the FMPSD partnered with the Wood Buffalo Community Foundation (WBCF) to support the mental health of our teachers and students after years of compounding trauma since the 2016 wildfire. The WBCF granted the FMPSD funds to support the program, which enabled each FMPSD school to be provided:
A copy of The Regulated Classroom Guidebook for each teacher and EA.
A teacher toolkit for each school.
Professional Development - Training for 2 teachers in each school to be 'trainers' in this framework as well as ongoing coaching for educators.
We have collected our own action research throughout the 2022-2023 school year directly from teachers who have piloted this framework and the results are clear - it is having a dramatically positive impact on the regulation of our staff and our students. Sometimes teachers use these practices solely for their own regulation, sometimes for a small group or other times for the whole class. The approach is broken into four practices: Connectors, Activators, Settlers and Affirmations.
The Guidebook provides easy, quick and impactful strategies that bring a sense of Felt Safety for adults and students alike. Ask your administrator about how you can get your copy today!
